The unagi was great (it's on the top of the plate, but kind of obscured by the spider roll). At the bottom was what they called "The Crispy Dynamite" which has shrimp tempura and crab rolled in coconut flakes and deep fried and then drizzled with a honey mayo sauce which was amazingly good. Spider roll was good as well, which had dungeness crab in it.

Jen and I went to Five Guys (Burgers and Fries) which opened up last week and boy oh boy, they have gooood burgers. I was surprised at how fresh and delicious and non-greasy it was, which was not at all what I was expecting. Fries were great too. It was crazy to me though how it took like, 9 people to assemble our burgers, it was a complete madhouse there. Though I'll chalk that up to it having just opened and the staff have no idea how to cope with how popular that place is yet.

I have to say that I don't see what's so special about Five Guys. It's not bad my any measure but it tastes just like any old Hardee's burger to me. I much prefer Smashburger.

I had sushi the other night. A new restaurant opened in town and we went to go check it out. I was pretty surprised because it seems like the owners are actually Japanese, even if they put a lot of Korean stuff on the menu. Sushi was pretty good and the sashimi proportions were insane (supposed to get 9 slices on one of our orders, ended up with 12, and each slice was basically 3x as large as a normal slice most places) which is probably just them chucking out inventory at the end of the night, but whatever. Some of their non-sushi things on the menu wasn't so great from what I could tell (I watched some other table eat a thing of sukiyaki, and it looked really incompetently made) but that's kind of par for the course for Japanese restaurants around these places - get what they specialize in (usually sushi) or bust.

It has been like 6+ months since I last had sushi. Hurts my soul. I wish I could eat it every day. :(

So this morning was Sweet Iron on 3rd between University and Seneca. Always a favorite when we're in Seattle. I had a S'mores waffle this morning.

And then dinner was a steak sandwich with Cheez Whiz from Al Calozzi's on 4th between University and Union. It was great.

I distinctly remember you calling me racist for bringing up Japanese restaurants run by non-Japanese people but it looks like you know why. Sashimi is supposed to be thick cut and most non-Japanese people don't understand.

They understand, but they're cheap and chintzy. This chintzyness isn't something Japanese chefs/owners are immune from either.

Went to a new place here in Louisville last week called Eiderdown and had duck fat popcorn as an appetizer. MrsTotoro also ordered beer cheese with baguette slices. Both were amazing.

And the steak with brussel sprouts and potatoes was equally amazing.

If you ever find yourself in the Louisville area, I can't recommend this place enough.

Going through some of my PAX photos and realized that I didn't post the amazing breakfast I had at the Georgian in the Fairmont Olympic hotel. There was Irish back bacon:

And Apple French Toast

I hope whoever invented hot dogs with cheese in them won a Nobel Prize. Next I think someone needs to invent hot dogs that are JUST cheese inside.

Someone did long ago. They called it 'string cheese'. It's pretty good but not as good as you might imagine.

Am I the only one who remembers these? They came with either Hormel chili or cheese inside them.

Hormel chili is made from the feces of Satan himself, so I probably wouldn't eat those.

Had Hardee's for breakfast this morning and was so dissatisfied with it that I went online and wrote in a contact form to express my displeasure.

I don't know if you mean the Hardee's breakfast or the online bitching.

The bitching, for sure. In my youth I always saw those 1-800 comment lines on products and wonder what kind of crotchety old fuck would call one of those but then I started doing it with the internet and now I feel old and ashamed of myself.

Never had a Hardee's breakfast, but Carl's Jr breakfast is pretty alright as far as fastfood breakfasts go. Maybe you stumbled upon a bad individual franchisee.

I have normally have good breakfast from them, but I changed up what I eat and it seemed rushed. Got a texas toast sandwich and the bread didn't get toasted, just kinda buttery.

Had some Dominos as well. Ordered a cheese pizza with extra cheese and three other types of cheeses on top. It was glorious.

Also had some Habit Burger from the original Habit Burger. Anyone who says that it's a better burger than In-n-Out is high. And here's the reasons:

Pros:
-Habit Burgers have marginally larger meat paddies.
-Habit Burgers have a slightly bigger variety of burgers (like teriyaki burgers).

Cons:
-Habit Burgers have shittier toppings that aren't as fresh.
-Habit Burgers have crappier milk shakes.
-Habit Burgers have crappier french fries.
-Habit Burgers are like, 35% more expensive and not worth the additional price.
-Habit Burgers business model isn't as refined and it takes longer to get your food.
