Which browser do you use and why?

Postby lemon-fresh » Jun 4th, 2010 @ 10:06am

I currently use Firefox but I am thinking of switching over to Chrome because of it's much smaller memory usage and speed.

What are the rest of you using?

iMac: Chrome, doesn't seem much faster than Firefox but not as much of a resource hog.
Windows laptop: Chrome and that does feel faster than Firefox.

Firefox, because I apparently love it when programs leak the fuck out of half of my entire 2GB of ram...

Chrome. The interface is so efficient. No wasted space. Good performance for the most part.

I use Firefox. Why? Cause it's what I'm used to, and I don't like change when it comes to my web browsers. It would take a seriously kickass browser coming out along with Firefox sucking for me to change things up.

Firefox on both Mac and Windows. I used it at first because it was the best browser around. Now I use it because I have it customized the way I like it and I'm too crotchety and set in my ways to change.

I actually go back forth between Opera and Chrome. Both are very similar expect bookmarks and tabs just flipped positions. But I really like what Chrome does with the search in address bar. I do like the aero like tabs on Opera but I never use them. I've had less problems with flash on Opera but it seems like they have worked out a lot of the bugs with Chrome lately. But both UIs are super minimilast I love them now. Going back to Firefox seems clunky as hell sometimes. Oh also like the widgets that Opera has especially the twitter one.

I'm just glad no one uses IE8.

Only switched to Safari from Firefox last week. Firefox has too many bugs. Safari ain't the best but it doesn't crash on me and is actually quite fast. Chrome would be my preferred choice but since me and my bro share the PC and he uses it, I'm stuck with Safari.

How's Opera actually?

I use Opera. It has tons of built-in features and offers plenty of customization options. Plus it's fast.

Absolutely. I love making quick search terms. "you" searches youtube, "az" searches amazon, "define" searches dictionary.com, etc. The extensions are nice, too. I have one for the weather, twitter and woot. I also have one that's pretty cool where if you are on a shopping site, it tells you if the page you are on features the lowest possible price for an item, if it doesn't, then it gives you a link to a cheaper one. Those might be available for other broswers, too, but I've only used them in Chrome.

The minimalistic design is great, as well.

Simple yet elegant video explaining why I like Chrome. And it's not just faster opening webpages, but starting up the program too. When I would click on any other browser, it would take a good 5-10 seconds for my computer to load. Chrome pops up and is ready to use almost as fast as it takes to click on the desktop icon.

I also make heavy use of highlighting a word (or series of words), right clicking on it, and then clicking the option "Search google for ..." So ridiculously useful.

That.

Also like being able to highlight URLs and right clicking to "go to," and when pasting a URL into the address bar with right click, you can "paste and go to."

I watched 13 seconds of the video Kenzo posted and it looked like hipster bullshit, so I turned it off. Fuck hipsters.

Hipsters spend far too much time chain-smoking, panhandling, and arguing about the minutia of their current fashions for them to go to school and learn anything remotely scientific. That video is 100% nerd.

I really like the way Safari works on Mac. The bookmark bar is annoying, but everything else is pretty solid.

I settle for Chrome on Win, but I'm always on the lookout for something better (not Opera).
