The Dead Thread

Postby jinpei05 » Nov 29th, 2010 @ 10:40am

Pretty self explanatory, we share notable (or not so notable) passings here, share memories of the deceased, good or bad, and generally commiserate without the alcohol.

Today marks the passing of the director of Empire Strikes Back, Irvin Kershner.

And also comedic actor, Leslie Nielson.

Leslie Nielsen was great :(

Has anyone seen Repossessed? It's one of Nielsen's less popular movies but I always liked it.

Ha! It was Scary Movie, before Scary Movie. Not very good, but Linda Blair looked good.

Irving Kershner was also responsible for the abominations known as Robocop 2 and Never Say Never Again. I'm not remotely upset by his passing.

Everyone should go and watch Forbidden Planet, to remember Nielsen as I'm sure he'd prefer to be. And Robocop 2 is the fucking BOMB.

I'm not saying "best action movie ever", it's just an enjoyable reminder of what the action film was. Now, we have Expendables, which arguably is a worse joke. At least Robocop 2 was well shot for the time, and had a plot (and robots what kill people).

Fine. I'll let your tastes in movies off with a warning. Tell them to watch their asses.

Robocop 2 was a decent action flick, but it missed a lot of the points that made Robocop brilliant.

Fixed.

It's great schlock, is all. Robocop 2 is a "put it on, tune out" kinda film. Robocop 3 is a "don't pay more for me" film.

Only reason why he's not in the HoF is because of the fucked up Veterans "we don't want anyone else in" committee.

Wow, Elizabeth Edwards dead. So sad. She fought cancer while her douchbag husband was cheating behind her back and she had to bury a child. Now that's rough.

Yeah, I always felt bad for her - her husband was a dick. I didn't vote for him in the 08 primaries because I just had that feeling, "guy is a total dbag." Mrs. Edwards got the short end of the stick in life, man. Tragic.

R.I.P Steve Landesberg

Image

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Steve Landesberg may have been best known for his role as the intellectual and sometimes annoying Detective Sgt. Arthur Dietrich on the long-running 1970s cop comedy "Barney Miller."

But younger audiences knew him too — for a slew of recent parts such as the doctor on the 2008 hit movie "Forgetting Sarah Marshall."

Landesberg appeared in dozens of TV shows, his curly haired, bespectacled face easily recognizable. Recent credits included "Everybody Hates Chris," "Just Jordan," "That 70s Show" and "American Dad."

"He was a wonderful comic and superb actor who gave so much of himself in every performance," said Shirley Jones, who appeared opposite Landesberg in what was one of his final appearances, an episode of "The Cleaner" last year.
