Never mind. I think it might have been Xpadder. I didn't realize it was still running in the systray.

It was 100% Xpadder. My xbox controller's right thumb stick sticks very slightly to the left.

Ok, well that's another mouse crisis averted.

I should probably get better at computers some day.

Razer still doesn't get a pass for the scroll wheel bullshit. That still pisses me off daily.

Do any of you have PCs that can handle the Oculus Rift?

You download a tool to see if your PC can handle it. The tool can be found here https://shop.oculus.com/en-us/cart/

I don't have a wallet that can handle it, so I don't really care to find out.

Thats kind of what I was getting at. Liquid there is no way your PC is good enough. You'd have to spent like $1600 to play the Oculus Rift. I'm pretty sure everyone here(except me and maybe cross) would need to make serious upgrades to their PC before they could use it.

The fact that my PC is good enough makes it a little tempting to pre order. That and I'm crazy.

Although I bet I could flip it and make a profit...

I'm going to propose a crazy idea to you. How about if you don't preorder it, wait for it to come out, read some reviews about how fun it is, decide if it's something you want in your life now or in 5 years when the technology catches up to the ideas a little more and maybe they become a little more affordable?

CRAZY!

For someone who is well off enough to have $500 to throw around on video cards whenever they strike your fancy, you sure do have a lot of big ideas to flip unproven consumer electronics. I bet you still have a stack of CDi's in your garage.

Rule of Acquisition number 62: The riskier the road, the greater the profit.

Also I don't just buy things. I usually save up for stuff or do some overtime at work to offset the purchase.

Without running the tool, I'm pretty sure my 2 year old computer meets the specs they are asking for.

They list 3 usb 3.0 and 1 usb 2.0 are needed. I wonder if that is for the headset itself or the peripherals that come with it.

The shortsightedness from nerds surrounded this VR shit is actually amazing to behold. I love the thread on GAF that declares VR is dead on arrival due to its price point, like this technology only applies to gaming and that nobody is going to pay upwards of a thousand dollars to play shootyman games on it... Like fucking seriously? This isn't a Wii that people are going to circle jerk over for a month and then forget. This is literal science fiction come to life.

I'm a little worried that as far as games go, we'll just get a bunch of mini game collections.

I mean, you aren't going to get Call of Duty caliber shit in VR for a long ass time. That's not why this stuff exists. You're going to get a lot of what feel like tech demos and limited interactive experiences on this thing for a couple of years. It's going to take a massive development effort to make a full fledged, open world style game on this technology, and that development won't happen until the technology has aged to the point where it's affordable for the everyman, thus having an install base. Gamers expect this thing to cost as much as a current gen gaming console and have games of that caliber available at launch and that's fucking hysterical and shortsighted to me.

Is it shortsighted? I could have subbed in Kinect for everything you just argued and dialed the clock back 5 years and it would have sounded reasonable to some people. And look at Kinect now

I think VR shit is neat but we're at the palm pilot level right now of its maturity and development. It's going to take a long-ass time before we get to the point of modern iPhones.

Bruh there was so much unjustified hype surrounding Kinect before it came out and during the initial release period. Same with Wii waggle. It's actually heartening to me that people are beginning to catch on that these gimmicks aren't going to be instant game changers, I dunno why u hating on some reasonable doubt.

There are already some impressive looking VR games

VR support will at least be modded into every PC game coming out and most developers will probably support VR is some way if it doesn't increase development cost too much. The games probably wont take full advantage of VR but I don't see why something like the next Elder Scrolls couldn't be done in VR.

The difference is that VR has been available for a while now and people know it actually works.

Only you think a game being impressive looking makes a game worthwhile. It's going to be a lot of static/cockpit experiences.

And yeah, nobody who used a Kinect ever made the mistake of thinking it was going to be anything other than a gimmick. It's comically imprecise... Same with Wiimotes. All it does it mimic button presses. This VR tech is on such a whole other level kenzo's just being a fucking dipshit again.

UPDATE: Tried to buy the same motherboard and it turns out it's no longer under warranty by it's maker for being a hot pile of shit. Fucking figures.

Will have to buy a different board. Anything I need to look for besides CPU compatibility?

EDIT- Here's some links for motherboards that would be CPU compatible that i'm looking at. Any suggestions would be helpful.

http://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-Chipset-2000MHz-Motherboards-GA-970A-D3P/dp/B00DJ3DWFK/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1453113497&sr=1-1&keywords=GIGABYTE+GA-970A-D3P

http://www.amazon.com/Sb950-32gb-Ddr3-4xdimm-2133/dp/B00DMLU9K0/ref=sr_1_10?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1453112764&sr=1-10&refinements=p_n_feature_four_browse-bin%3A2057457011%2Cp_n_feature_keywords_two_browse-bin%3A6159419011%2Cp_n_feature_four_browse-bin%3A2057462011

Given my last one was Gigabyte, I'm not real inclined to get another Gigabyte. Reading reviews of motherboards in general makes every board seem like shit and I worry I'll have DOA.

It's the same ASUS motherboard you posted but its actually sold by amazon so it will have the amazon warranty and its cheaper

http://www.amazon.com/MSI-970-GAMING-DDR3-Motherboard/dp/B00LUY72F6

This one seems good too but its out of stock at amazon until Saturday.

Since you just had to reinstall windows 7 now would be the perfect time for you to stop living in the past and upgrade to windows 10.

That's Windows 8.

Windows 10 takes more inspiration from Windows 7 than Windows 8.
