What'Cha Been Listening?

Postby James-Kond » Apr 11th, 2009 @ 6:53am

So yeah, tell us here what you've been listening to, pre Artists and Albums, we don't want to make this too much of a mess now do we? ;)

So what I've been listening to the new Röyksopp album, Junior, which has some very nice songs on them however it isn't really the cool and chilling sound from Melody AM. However maybe the album that will be coming later this year 'Senior' will make up for that.

Also this band The Horrors which have this very cool new album which this really is a rocking song off: http://digg.com/u1kJh

Also some Ratatat Remix Mixtapes, which basically is the goodness of Ratatat mixed in with very good hip hop (http://digg.com/u1kKG)

Damn I really made a mess of it, oh well ^^
It all started with a bang.

I've been listening to Pretty Lights, an electronic group from Ft. Collins, CO. Their first two albums are available on their site for free if you would like them. I would recommend 'Taking Up Your Precious Time' to ease your way into it. When I mention the genre "electronic," I don't mean "THUMP THUMP THUMP ROBOT VOICE." Its just great music to put into the background while your doing something else.

I recently went through a lot of my Chiptune library and started listening to Random's 'Bad Joke' EP. It's five tracks of 8-bit that will melt your pants. I can't find it on Amazon or iTunes, but I found it on Last.fm. Highly recommended.
Sent from my TI-83.

Roscoe is one of my favorite songs ever written. Not sure why I'm surprised that anyone has heard of these guys...

I've also been listening to the new Royksopp. I really, really like Happy Up Here, but the rest of the record hasn't overly impressed me yet, but I can tell it's growing on me. I was really looking forward to hearing Lykke Li on the record and I was really unimpressed with the track when I first heard it but I'm starting to really love it. The 80's cheese synth at the beginning was jarring, but I've grown to really love it. :)

Aside from that, I've been listening to the new MF DOOM (now just DOOM I guess...) disc Born Like This, which is absolutely fucking sickening, the new YYY's, It's Blitz, Pearl Jam's Ten reissue, and the new Trail of Dead record which is pretty much as pretentious (and great!) as all their older ones. :)

Other random tunes I can't stop listening to:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iy2XnTUbEbI - You Love Her Cause She's Dead - Superheroes
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GvemEJGo8Dc - Kings Go Forth - One Day (Milwaukee music represent!)

Dilla's beat is perfection, why would I want a version that Thom Yorke masturbated all over? :)

Sorry I like whatever music sounds good to me. I don't really like stuff that is considered to actually be "good".

My current CD-RW in my car has a lot Danzig, Pentagram, The Shins, Simon and Garfunkel, Arch Enemy, Between the Buried and Me, older Rise Against and Neil Young on it

I second JoCo! And audio book "Red Mars."

Music:

Jimmy Eat World - Clarity Live (still the best album ever, imho -> Get it here (uncompressed audio FTW!))
You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead - Century of Self
Ben Folds - Songs for Silverman
The Streets - a few songs from the first two and the last album
A - Hi-Fi Serious (because it's the first thing in my iTunes library and I keep hitting play without choosing music to play ARGH)
I like Sauerkraut and Wurst!

Lol, very true, it's so much easier to download a free podcast than to buy music...or get free music, not that anyone here does that.

It's a bit more entertaining too I believe than listening to the same music for the 5th time that day.

I third this notion. I listen to more podcasts than music nowadays.

I minus one this motion, podcasts are quite cool, but can you dance on a podcast? can you play a podcast on a party? can you just relax and sit back/fall asleep/drive while listening to a podcast?

I don't think so.

Hazards of Love has some stellar tracks on it, but the new rock infused sound is a bit jarring. I don't prefer it to any of their previous work, but it's still a solid disc from one of my favorite bands currently recording.
