Yeah, you're right Cross. I looked it up, and there's enough differences that they felt it necessary to make a new kit for some stupid reason.

But guess what??

Only the manliest of all Gundams. You're truly a shit-tier pleb if you can't appreciate its majesty.

Edit: Though to be fair, that's an inferior variant from a different show that the Burning Gundam originally came from.

Regina's obsessed with my gundam & gundam box. She somehow found out how to take him apart; she took off one of his toe panels and chewed on it a little bit. They're only little kitten bites so it's not too bad, but ... Reginaaaaaaaa!!

Beat the shit out of that kitty. She shouldn't be allowed to get away with it!

Seriously though, this is why you get 2 kitties so they can keep each other occupied and not be so bored that they begin destroying things in order to get your attention.

So, as I implied up-thread, got my Burning Gundam in the mail!

Here it is taken out of the packaging:

I feel like this will be significantly easier than my Turn-A. Not just because I know more of what I'm doing, but because it appears this is a much simpler mech to put together. Also note the ridiculously large Domon there for no reason. Yeah, you're not getting painted, Domon.

A) I'm bad with a paint brush

B) I'm not buying a bunch of paint for models; this hobby is already expensive and I don't need to be spending more money than is necessary for...

C) A figure that's kinda ugly.

You can tell the G Gundam is a much older MG kit because it's more simple, has some strange shit in it (rubber!?), and the directions are vastly inferior, missing some of the organization and helpfulness than the Turn-A's.

Circa 90s boombox. Game Informer magazines. Hackey Sack. I'm compiling a list of your transgressions, kevin. Prepare to be judged.

lol, of course you see the one issue of Game Informer I ever got. As far as the hackey sack that has literally been in that spot for maybe almost a decade. Also don't be hating on my speakers.

Even if that's the only Game Informer on that shelf (and that has yet to be proven) I don't feel like it's a stretch to say anybody that lives with a disheveled heap of old magazines on a bookshelf like that made a wrong turn somewhere in life.

Oh no! LiQuid's going to judge us! Whatever shall we dooooo!?!?!?

So, last night while trying to play Civ5, I started work on the G-Gundam. The instruction manual starts with the arms for some reason.

Image

I'm not really sure how I'm going to go about doing the lining on this one. Unlike the Turn-A, there just isn't a lot of lines on this model. Like, with this arm, there's maybe one line to do.

Image
The articulation is nice but it's kinda stiff. There's already two screws in this thing to hold together the joints, which is weird. It makes the frame feel more sturdy, and the articulation more rigid, but the outside pieces feel more flimsy in comparison, it's weird.

Bonus pics:

Kitty wouldn't leave me alone and demanded to sit on my lap while building:

So since my dream of getting my G-Gundam to do a rad pose while mounted on an MG Fuun Saiki like this is dead, I think I've decided what I'm going to do for my gunpla collection. Oh fuck, I'm planning to have a collection of these, somebody stop me!

I'm going to get a rad thing going where I have a hero-mech fight a villain-mech from their respective series. Have 'em reenact famous battle scenes. So I've got a Turn-A and a God Gundam already. That means I'll need a Turn-X and Master Gundam to go up against 'em. Make 'em take a rad pose. Like have the God Gundam & Master Gundam do something like this. Or have the Turn-A and the Turn-X locked in a timeless struggle, harmonizing their Moonlight Butterflies.

So I think the next order of business is to get that going. Then work on my favorite pair-offs. So start with:

Zeta Gundam vs The O
Hyaku Shiki vs Qubeley
RX-78-2 vs Custom Zaku II (Maybe Zeong, but the red Zaku II is much more iconic)
Nu Gundam vs Sazabi
Unicorn vs Sinanju
ZZ Gundam vs ???

Plan has a few snags though. For starters, Not really sure how to match up the ZZ Gundam. I can't have both Char AND Judau fight Haman Karn. And getting a Qubeley II would be kinda bad because it's just a palate swap with the OG Qubeley. The other big issue is that The O is fucking gigantic and fucking expensive as fuck. Like, it's a little bit taller than a typical Gundam and about three times as thick. The MG kit on Amazon costs >$100!! This whole thing is a bad idea!

I just realized I never told Kevin "zomg!" in response to this Deathscythe. It looks super boss, great job, buddy!

I really want to see how Jenn's progress is coming. I'm pretty excited to see how it ends up!!

Congrats on caving, Cross! Hopefully you get your G-Gundam soon. I think the Moonlight Butterfly for my Turn-A came today in the mail, but I wasn't there to sign for it, so hopefully they come back tomorrow.

I busted a piece for the first time in my Gunpla career. It was on my G-Gundam's knee. It's a pretty superfluous piece that I won't affect the mech's integrity or its looks, so I'm just leaving it as is instead of attempting a repair. Still, I was pretty pissed off at that. You can really tell this is an older, lower quality MG kit versus the Turn-A I made, the pieces don't fit nearly as well together, there's a buttload of dumb screws, the directions, packaging, and organization is just poor, and there's overall less detail. And the articulation so far is inferior. At least in the legs - the legs don't bend nearly as much as the Turn-A does (though the shoulders are probably more adjustable). Maybe it's a standard for MG kits and the Turn-A is just a delightful exception (which wouldn't surprise me since Bandai made a huge deal out of it being their special 100th MG kit) but yeah. It's a thing I guess. It's still looking OK though. I'll put up a picture of a finished leg maybe tonight.

Wings? On a Gundam?

If all goes well and I fall into a Gundam rabbit hole, I think my next kit after the G-Gundam will be one of the Astray's from Gundam Seed.
