Magic: The Gathering

Postby proper » May 26th, 2009 @ 8:44pm

A friend recently got me into the card game Magic: The Gathering. So far I'm absolutely loving the game, but i was wondering if anyone else here plays. If you don't I recommend you give it a try, and if you do then, its a great game, isn't it?

It's a great game (at least it was, I stopped playing after Mirrodin came out), but way too expensive for a poor student like me ;) I could never afford enough cards to be able to build good decks. But every now and then, I still get into it again and spend like 50€ on new cards and everything. It's like an old addiction kicking back in ;)
I like Sauerkraut and Wurst!

I played from Beta through...Ice Age, I believe. Old skool. Wish I still had all my old cards, could retire ;)

We sell packs at the store, so I kinda keep up with what's going on, but I haven't tapped mana in...jesus, now that I'm looking at the dates...14 years. Holy crap, seems like just yesterday.

I remember my friend had two very valuable Black Lotus cards that he bought over something called the internet. I was amazed one could do such a thing.

I'm trying to sell my collection after playing for ten years. I had fun playing at tournaments and PTQ's, but I need to pay for college.

I too played from 1st or 2nd edition until Mirage or so. The expansions were just getting too silly and I ran out of people to play with. I recently played a few games with a friend on Magic Workstation, which is a pretty rad program, but I didn't get super into it.

I'll more than likely be buying the XBLA version that's coming out soon cause I do have a bunch of internet buddies that are into it. Plus it seems like a more gimped/streamlined version of the game that doesn't require as much thought and effort into deck building, which is good for someone with a limited amount of time.

I used to love Magic. But I can't find the time money and energy to get back into it. Plus I don't know anyone that still plays.

Someone should make a new video game for Magic with Updates for the new cards. I would probably get back into it.

I currently use my old magic cards as book markers.

Well I think the closest thing to a Magic videogame that gets updated is Magic:The Gathering Online. Alot of people play that over the physical version, but I think it takes months to get the new cards up once they are released.

Played from Ice Age to the End of the Urzas' Block. Fun game indeed enjoyed countless hours of CCG fun. I just got back into it at the Lorwyn expansion. The new cards make the old cards look like trash, I could not believe it. Oh well things change. I am however really looking forward to the XBLA MTG game Duel of the Planeswalkers:

I guess it is going to be pretty basic but I still cannot wait.

I played for a while in junior high, lost interest, and then got back into it earlier this year. It started with a friend and I discovering that we'd both played it, starting back up again, and then convincing a few of our friends of how fun the game is. I still play every once and a while, but it's not a regular thing. Good game though.

I chose to quit MtG a year ago, after playing for about 2 and a half years. Got tired of spending an ass-ton of money and always lose =/

I played for about a month with my friend. Spent about 25 bucks on cards, he gave me a bunch of cards, then I lost interest.

Pokemon was more of my game. Still is, as soon as I get money for Platinum: Rising Rivals.
Thanks to The Geekbox, I have cured my addiction to gaming. I now have an addiction to comics. And Lost. =/

What was that? I couldn't hear you over the sound of my flexing muscles, roaring Ferrari engine and moaning, bikini-model girlfriend.

This is coming out on XBLA this week (Wednesday I think?) I'll more than likely be playing it if anybody wants to get together and have a match.

I played with a few friends, but when we were all reduced to buying single cards to counter each other's decks, we called it quits. But I did recently inherit a HUGE cache of MTG cards that another friend had sitting in his parents' basement.

I stopped playing a few years ago. It was some fun shit, having a green brute deck, but I mainly stopped playing due to the place I went to play. The people there smelt like they rolled into a pile of shit and smashed garlic in their arm pits ahah.

I went on a nostalgia kick recently and wondered what Pokemon cards are like now, and I was surprised to find the game seems pretty well designed. Focus is on the monsters instead of the support cards (as it should be in a Pokemon card game), sets get rotated out enough that it keeps things fresh, and few cards are powerful enough to warrant banning. I'd probably consider playing it again if I knew anyone who actually did, but as is I'm content not feeding a TCG addiction again.
