Team Fortress 2: Official Geekbox Server (games every Sun.!)

Geekbox forum superstar Mr_eX runs a Geekbox Steam community group and dedicated server for Team Fortress 2, Valve's awesome team-based multiplayer first-person shooter. If you're new to TF2, there's never been a better time to jump on board, as it is now free-to-play!

So come play some TF2 with us! We have official Geekbox Game Nights every Sunday at 4:00 PM Pacific time, but the server's gotten quite popular, and you can routinely find plenty of people on at varying hours -- so make sure to add the Geekbox server to your favorites! We have a pretty good map rotation, and the server supports replays as well. Here are the important URLs that you should know:

Official Geekbox Team Fortress 2 Server (connect via Steam):
steam://connect/68.232.179.191:27015
steam://connect/tf2.geekbox.net:27015
(Note: These addresses both connect to the same server)

Hell yeah, Team Fortress 2! If you're not playing it, you're seriously missing out on a fantastic game. So why not play it with us!?

And, for all the newbies, here's an extremely reductive guide to each of Team Fortress 2's nine classes. And here's a better one, if you're so inclined.

Scout: Run super-fast, grab the intel/cap points/whatever, and don't die.
Soldier: Shoot rockets at the ground. Watch them explode everything nearby.
Pyro: Spray fire like a madman. Do it doubly so when the enemy team stacks Spies. Right-click to knock people away.
Demoman: Boobytrap a high-traffic area with stickybombs and right-click to detonate. Spam grenades like it's doomsday.
Heavy: Get a Medic buddy, walk out in front of the enemy team, and hold the left mouse button until everyone is dead.
Engineer: Build and upgrade a sentry and a dispenser, and spend the rest of the game hitting them with your wrench.
Medic: Follow a heavy-firepower teammate and heal him. Occasionally right-click to win. Try not to die.
Sniper: Find a good vantage point, and right-click to bring up your scope. Get headshots.
Spy: Wear a disguise, sneak up behind people, one-shot them with your knife, and run away. Right-click to cloak. Also, sap the damn sentries, please.

I think my headset might be losing connection in it's wires so now the left side goes on and off.
Don't be surprised if I don't speak for a little bit.

Or else Trine can't do stereo sound that good. We'll see what happens.

Anyway I got my tickets for today so I should head in.

Nothing keeping you from starting some new great, baseless, nonsensical flame wars!

Example: The Medic is the best class, and medieval mode sucks. Discuss.

Hilarious things I've heard newbies ask in the past few days:

- Engineer: "How exactly do those sappers work, anyway?"
- Medic: "The medigun should heal the Medic at the same rate it heals his target!"
- Spy: "Why can't I backstab when I'm cloaked?"

Not that I turn my nose up at the new players; they're healthy for the game, and it's absolutely awesome to see such a powerful renewed interest in TF2. But, you know, hearing stuff like this is still amusing. :)

In a game earlier today there were 4 spies and 5 snipers on the team. It was bad. I think I'm going to have to put a class limit on the server.

I love it when people say junk like that. Classes have weaknesses for a reason - balance. If you could do everything you wanted as a class, you'd be invincible and there wouldn't really be a point to the multiplayer aspect of the game.

I'll tell you what the game really does need though: TF2 needs to bring back some critical aspects of TFC like how the medics used to be able to give people the plague, or the CTF-like mission modes where the objective was to release a bunch of nerve gas that wipes everyone out, or caltrops/conc grenades.

The server now has a class limit and it should go into effect as soon as the map changes.

Max of 3 per class, I can limit each class to whatever though. I can make it so pryros are not allowed on the server if I really wanted to.

Pyros are good for the Aussies (now we have 3 regulars btw, at least for the Saturday events), due to our higher pings. Pyros are Scouts are how we survive.

Yeah, me and Ex were playing earlier today and it was getting ridiculous with the newbies. At one point we had four snipers and five spies on defense.

I wanted a class-limit of 2 per (forcing all the classes to get used), but 3 is probably more reasonable.

SogekiDan wrote:TF2 in general would be great if it didn't crash over and over.
Fixed that for you (according to Mr_eX).

Valve will probably release 18 updates this week and one might fix it.

I played WAAAAAAAAAAY to much TF2 this weekend. I checked and I put over 9 hours in a day. That's stupid and I'm not playing that much TF2 a day ever again.

I hate when I end up doing any one thing for that much time. LoL might be good, but I wouldn't want to play anything for 9 hours a day for 3 days straight.
