Persona 4 launched on the PS2 in 2008. Persona games releasing on last-gen consoles well in to the next console cycle isn't unprecedented.

I'd rather have them release a super polished game on an older console; srsly what could next gen OMGPARTICLES possibly improve?

The 45min event was seriously the biggest Atlus cock tease I've ever seen haha. A lot of fans were losing their minds over the spinoffs (also Adachi in P4A!?!) then suddenly, another countdown of 55:555 appears, P5's announced, and the crowd goes wiiiild!!

Ohhh babybabybabybabybabybaby I'm totally buying all these.

I love how they flash the UI in the trailer. Like, literally, Persona is the only franchise in all of videogames where I actually get hype about the fucking interface.

Darfox I am going to need you to do an hour+ long dissection of this and post it to youtube. I can't wrap my head around the sheer volume of anime nonsense going on here and I need a spirit guide.

I'd be motivated to but I don't know enough Japanese. Main menu is in English and the only thing that's head scratchy there is "Cooperation". If that's not referring to some sort of multiplayer then it might be a menu where you can issue commands to your party? P3 let you split your party up to fill out the dungeons and this might be similar.

Blue menu with the girl in boots seems to be your item shop and green is your weapon shop.

Dar likes persona, but his familiarity with the franchise is nowhere near that with mgs, to say nothing of his boner for both as well. Can't rely on the man for that. Maybe Jen is the most qualified person here. I could probably but I kinda love-hate SMT and would never willingly take in such a project for any game.

Yeah I've never played an SMT game outside of Persona. Never had much desire out side of that Nocturne game that came out on PS2.

But P has a formula in and of itself and you can pick a lot of it up by just watching that trailer.

I just remembered the "Slave" and then "escape" or "emancipation" theme the game was suppose to have. The feeling of being trapped in school and the moment the bell rings you are free and not beholden to anyone.

This new trailer has very little of that. At least not as explicitly as the teaser trailer with the ball and chains on the school chairs. You are however in a jail cell during the Velvet Room sequences. P3 and P4 had you going to a destination, in an elevator and limousine respectively. This jail cell is the one bit I saw that explicitly uses slave imagery.

I like the bit where the teacher throws a chalk at MC. Probably just a cutscene or something but the animations looked stilted and the camera angle static. Would be funny if you can look out the window to get "charm" or some bullshit, but risk being reprimanded by the teacher.

I'm sure you've read a bunch of online stories & trailer convos already about this buuuut...

I'm pretty sure 'Cooperation' is to check Social Links, and 'Mission' is side quests.
Demons / Personas in battles suggest they might be taking this game back to P1 & P2, where you needed to recruit demons into your party like the mainline SMT games.
Pushing this theory further is the fact that your character can equip a melee weapon and a gun for both element types (Slash & Shot, I think) ... just like mainline SMT and early Persona titles.
I'm also getting a Digital Devil Saga vibe at the end of the trailer when he gets engulfed in that fire... maybe they become their personas or fuse with them somehow? Or was that just his shadow?

I'm excited; this game looks incredible!

It's a little embarrassing to admit but I have probably watched the trailer for this 10-15 times since it came out.
