Free = $400 for a PS4 and $15/mo for a PS+ sub.

Nah, whatever a lot of you guys have PS4's I'm kinda surprised there aren't more of you playing it together already. I'm kind of over it. It looks really neat, but I hear the air control isn't particularly fun. I'd buy it some day if it gets deep discounted on PC, but I don't feel like dropping $20 on another flavor of the month game that nobody's gonna be talking about in a couple weeks (looking at you, Rust).

You know, Overwatch is a MOBA right? It's a 3rd person behind the back MOBA like Smite. You might as well have Dota 2 be the next game night game.

DOTA will always be too try hard for people like kenzo unlike we play custom game modes.

Rocket League was super fun and casual when I played with Beowolf but that's probably because Shacknews dudes are just drunk and happy compared to Geekbox members. Other problem is that it only supports 8 people max.

I wasn't actually suggesting Dota, I'm saying that playing a Blizzard shooter/MOBA would be like playing Dota, ie. it won't work because it's too structured and dependent on teamplay.

Everquest isn't an MMO, it's the digital equivalent of being kicked in your nuts. MMOs have shit like fetch quests, and kill 10 of x monsters. Everquest has you literally sitting in place and killing the same monster as it respawns every 5 minutes to level up. Everquest is actually still probably the most fun you can have with other people over the internet. I just wonder what someone with no nostalgia for it would think about it now. Project 99 isn't an exact facsimile of what EQ was back in the day, but it's close enough. it uses a slightly more modern client so it has a more functional, customizable UI than the original EQ UI that had you playing the entire game thru a 300x300 pixel window on your screen.

All the gameplay is basically the same. The Velious expansion is (finally) coming to P99 next month too. It'll be the last expansion ever on the server because after that the game moved to the awful Luclin expansion and it's "improved" models (which are actually the ugliest fucking thing ever) and became too easy by letting every player warp around the world like they fucking deserved it. I've got a max level shaman on P99 and a handful of other characters around 50+ but I haven't been on there since around 2012-13 when my guild imploded and got absorbed into the "big" guilds. I do log on once or twice a year just to make sure it hasn't ceased to exist. It's awesome. I almost have as much nostalgia for my time on P99 as I do my initial time playing EQ in actual 1999.

Just sayin I'd play some more rocket league (obvs). You can always have more than one game going at a time if you have more than 8 people around at the time, not optimal but it's something. Alternatively you could do some kind of bracket for the night. We did one last week and even with being our first attempt and not having planned ahead as well as possible it went pretty well due to games being so short. We did best of three for each round. If you have 3 man teams you could probably get a pretty decent bracket done in a couple hours. Also if you have at least one person per team able to stream (super easy on PS4 and pretty painless on PC) then those who have been knocked out can still watch and participate on comms. I'd even be willing to put up some steam bux or something if you guys decided to go ahead.

Also consider Don't starve together. I had a good time with it in the past couple weeks but we only had 2 or 3 people who played the entire time. If you had a larger group you could probably get a lot more done.

How many people can be in one Don't Starve together world? Is it based off of RoG or vanilla Don't Starve? Also, how easy is it to return to life? If you screw something up early and die, it would suck to not be able to truly participate any longer.

It is partially based on ROG from what I understand. Not everything is there. For instance there are no caves in DST. The resurrect stuff is a server setting. You can enable it and then when you die you become a ghost, you can then return to the spawn gate and be resurrected with a lowered maximum health which can be restored to normal using certain items. Each subsequent death your maximum health is lowered further to a maximum of 30 below your normal max I believe. I think 6 is the normal max but I have see that there are 12 person servers. Not sure what is required for that. Some say those are the Klei servers. I'd have to look into if you can run 12 on private dedicated servers or not. I might be able to donate a server to this if there's interest. Have one in NY that's not doing much.
