People are actually excited for this? It looks like every other MOBA. Oh, whoops, it's made in UDK4 - so it's like every other MOBA but it has particles.

Kenzo does the green text thing in discord without there even being green text and it makes me wish I could strangle people thru the internets.

When they announced this at PSX they opened the presentation with "Paragon is a MOBA" and I immediately thought it was DOA, since MOBA has GOT to be a poison term in the industry right now. Epic seems way WAY too late to the party with this. It doesn't even matter what it looks or plays like. Making a non-League/Dota/Smite MOBA in 2016 just isn't going to work.

I think it definitely matters what it plays like. If it plays completely different than the traditional moba it might be able to attract some people that are turned off by mobas.

There are a lot of games out there that play completely different than a traditional MOBA. People already play those instead of MOBAs.

Watched lirik play this for a couple minutes and there's NO way this game is going to run on my PC. Looks like Smite with Gears-esque dudebros instead of gods. On the plus side they are going with the Dota business model. All heroes free and no gameplay items available for purchase. Only cosmetic stuff.

Played one game of this. Someone on both teams abandoned it pretty early on (both players died twice trying to play Call of Duty then ragequit) so played most of the game 4v4. My team won. I got the most kills in the game. But I did not know what I was doing for the most part, other than general MOBA shit like laning and pushing and paying attention to the mini map to see where I could get kills. I didn't buy starting items, which I think I was supposed to. I ended up just clicking on things to buy but I had no clue what they did. There were some harvester things on the map I was supposed to interact with in some way but I didn't. I dunno, I don't really get the game yet, but it looked awful (the graphics settings it defaulted my computer to look like what I imagine life is like for Darfox) and felt slow and janky like a third person moba. Nothing about it stood out as interesting. Definitely not sure what you guys see in it that sets it apart from Smite. Smite may have some questionable art (in particular its juvenile, big-titty-waifu heroes) but it has a much more distinctive look and all the abilities look are easier to make out. The non-stylized look of this game makes for terrible recognition of what's happening.

Is there a ranged caster style hero in this game? I saw someone in the game raining down rocks or something from the sky. I want to try that out before I write it off. I played the black guy with a really slow firing rifle who looked like he had ADC stats which explains how I was doing so much damage late game.

The harvester gathers gold and XP for your team as you're playing. You have to go to the harvester to collect it and it can be destroyed by the other team. There are also jungle camps that give you buffs.

Gideon is caster you're talking about. He's cool.

You should at least get to level 5 so you can mess around with the custom decks.

Building a deck to lock in my characters loadout for match isn't something I'm interested in at all. I'd rather make those choices in the middle of a match and not have RNG and collectible card game elements determine that I'm able to equip.

Still not sure what you guys consider great about this that you think Smite doesn't do as well.

I should have took some screen shots to show you guys what the game looked like for me. It was an absolute disaster. I'll play another game eventually and take some pictures.

When you build a deck you have way more cards in it than you can equip and you get to chose the upgrade path for each card(you can basically put all the other cards as an upgrade to one card if you want). Ideally your deck will be built for multiple situations.

Smite is flat, Paragon has some verticality to it and you're able to jump over abilities.

The flatness of Smite isn't a detriment or a downside, just the way its designed. It just puts all the combat on a level field and doesn't even allow vertical aiming because it's not needed. Saying Paragon is better than Smite because you can aim up and down is like saying Paragon is better than Dota because Dota has an overhead view. The verticality in Paragon's map is pointless. It doesn't add anything to the game.

Tried cranking the settings up to max to see if I could even make the game look better and it still looks like shit. The character models have some sort of grimy muddiness to them that I don't see in any other footage of the game.
