I'm fairly new to comics having only read what I guess would be considered classics in the past, but I've been picking up the New 52 collected editions as they come out. I'm trying to decide what to do about the zero issues, the omnibus is coming out in December, but I'm worried that such a thick book will make it difficult to see the two page panels as I find that is a problem in just the regular hard covers. Should I pick up the single issues or am I worrying about nothing?

Also is a list anywhere that says which 0s are save to read after only having read the first collected volumes to avoid spoilers? Or am I better off just keeping these until I've read the second volumes, bringing me up to around issue 12?

Not sure if this is the correct thread for this, but I'm new here and can't create topics yet.

The #0 issues pretty much stand alone, so I think you'd be fine to read them at pretty much any time. Some, like Resurrection Man, is actually the last issue of the series, so those you'd want to wait until you get to the end. Others, like Talon, is the first issue of a new series. If you're picking up all the collected editions of the books you're following, I assume the #0 will be in them in the proper release order.

A lot of the #0s I read were not standalone at all (like Green Lantern), but most of them are designed in a way that they could be good jumping on points for people unfamiliar with the titles.

Artist/writer mixups have to be the most infuriating part of white comics. It's nice when someone new comes in and mixes things up once and a while. But moving the talent away from a great comic after only a year? That's no good. I fear for what Red Hood will turn into.

That said, Superman #0 was BAD-ASS.

New issue of Batman (#13) was awesome. Everything that that the stupid Owls bullshit wasn't/lacked. I love how in the comic too, that the Joker totally calls out Batman for being a pussy because some stupid owls get in his way.

Yeah :(

Legion Lost is clearly the better of the 2 Legion books, but I get why it's ending.

But yeah :(

What else is on the chopping block? I don't give a fuck about Legion Lost. Frankenstein makes me sad, even if I'm part of the problem (I enjoyed the book, but just kinda fell off because I was reading so much other shit).

Fuck, really? Blue Beetle got the axe? I'm a sad sad panda. He better show up with the Teen Titans or something, because I need me some Blue (although they've already more than fulfilled their brown-quota in that book with Bunker and Solstice).

The first 8? issues were pretty fun, but then Rob Liefeld took over. I'll check it out again after he's gone.

You guys are so racist against Liefeld. You know god damned well you all loved comics in the 90's and Liefeld WAS comics in the 90s. The dream of the 90s is alive in Liefeld.

As of right now, I own 2 issues by Liefeld, and that's the 2 issues of Teen Titans he drew with Gail Simone. In my entire life, I might have owned...a dozen? The last few New Mutants and the first few X-Force, but those have long since been purged. I might have kept the McFarlane Spider-Man x-over issue after I dumped all my X-Men, but I dumped all my Spidey a while after, so it would have gone, too. I never liked him, not even at the time.

Liefeld is shit. And what's even sadder is that his work has gotten worse over the years, not better. How that guy has a job at DC is a mystery.

I wouldn't know about the 90s. But what I do know is two words: "Hawk" and "Dove". Liefeld's shit is so bad, it wraps around twelve times back into bad. It's the fuckin' worst. Higgins takes a lot of stances that are baffling or indefensible. But hammering him over Liefeld? Wut??

I was j/k. I wanted an excuse to post my new fav gif. To be honest though I have a pretty high tolerance for shitty art and Liefeld still bugs me a lot, though I still consider his old shit endearingly shitty when I go back and look at it. It's pretty inexcusable that he's still that bad though.

I'm just a trade reader so I've only read the first 6 to 8 issues of everything, but Frankenstein was one absolute favourites of the New 52. I can see how the sketchy artwork might have turned people off, but I thought it was great - the scale of the battle in the town in the first issue and the monster planet stuff was great, as was the wacky teleport/shrinkage HQ thing. I loved this comic and I'm sorry to see it go.

Just burned through a bunch of Action Comics and holy damn that book is all kinds of awesome. Really didn't like the first arc that much but the second major arc (about the forgotten Superman) and the one shot about the black Superman from the alternate dimension were totally rad stories. The deus ex landlady that wiped out Clark's death was super dumb though, but whatever, Comic Books!

I really don't understand what is wrong with the CC guys. Especially Brock. I don't get what's so confusing about it, or why he's so hung up on the supersuit. Action is awesome. And I would totally read a book all about Super Obama. I wasn't even mad about the landlady - I just laughed my ass off cuz it's myxplyxysticks outta left field! Loved that dude in the toon.

Yeah I was sad when I found out Supbama was only a one off. Seems like the kind of thing Morrison would totally keep in his back pocket to make another appearance further into the series (especially the retarded mind engine that creates Supermans  ) but isn't he leaving cape comics in a couple months?? Fucking tragedy, I think Action is one of the most downright interesting comics DC is putting out.
