Batman Inc has been retarded, so I'm not sure I have everything straight, but:
Talia usurped control of the League of Shadows from Ra's. Talia then put a hit out on Damian saying he was damaged goods but maybe it was to toughen him up? Batman took it personal, started to take the fight to her, while ordering Damian to stay put out of fear for his life. Talia sprung an elaborate trap including mind controlled rioting children, a hostage situation at Wayne Tower, man-bats, bombs 'n shit to blow up Gotham, a bunch of Damien-clones included a hulked out one (the guy in the mask and white clothes on the cover I linked) and a Houdini-death-escape for Batman designed to be impossible for him to escape by himself in time. The Bat-family is called in, Gotham gets turned into a warzone, everyone gets pinned down, and then Damian shows up to save the day. He tangos with some dudes while Batman is trapped, has a cool bro-moment with Nightwing, and then gets pumped full of arrows and then shanked by his hulk-clone who went off-script.
Maybe it's the ugly art, maybe it's just the story not making any sense, but this was a "lolwut" moment for me. But Batman & Robin dealing with the aftermath has been a waayyyyyy better handling of the whole Robin-is-dead-story. The past two (and the next three) issues of Batman & Robin are all themed around the five stages of grief, and Bruce Wayne totally being a dick to everyone (which, ironically, has also made for a much more convincing death-of-the-family story arc as well).
