BTW, i don't know why i never got Secret Six when it first came out. That book is phenomenal.

I hear you. My local comic shop is pretty small. The generally only have the latest issues and a ton of figurines. I read the first volume (it is out). The second one is out or will be out pretty soon.

I shop at (cheap plug) Cosmic Comics on 23rd street in manhattan. Great selection but i am loathe to pick up anything new. If someone says something positive i pick up a trade to get the whole storyline. if it whets my whistle then i either start collecting or wait until the next trade to get a whole story in (like i do with Walking Dead).

I got a friend who isn't into superheroes, but he has told me he wants to read comics. He's already been given We3 to read, and liked that. I told him about Fables, since it's the only non-superhero series on my shelf. Having read the last post in this thread, I'll be sure to tell him about Y: The Last Man. If anyone can suggest anything else, I'll be sure to pass it on to him.

Try Locke & Key, I gave it to my brother for Christmas last year and he enjoyed it and it was his first graphic novel.

Bleaker? The only way it could be bleaker is if everyone died every issue.

I have kind of a specific request. I just got an iPad and I love the Marvel and ComiXology apps. I also like reading complete story arcs. For instance, the last few comics I read were Watchmen, The Ultimates volume 1, and The Astonishing X-Men. Is there any recommendation for something like this that is available on one of these apps?

Theres a lot of walking dead in the comixology app but that will probably never end. It sucks that there isn't more available digitally, to get what you want the only thing you can do is get an app like comic zeal or cloudreaders and then torrent the comics.

Yeah, hopefully it catches on and prompts the publishers to put more out there for these apps.

I'm thinking I might get chunks of Invincible. It's one that people have recommended a lot.

I'm thinking about reading either Invincible or Green Lantern next but the Green Lantern story looks kind of complicated with the crossovers and stuff so I think I'm going to read Invincible.

Anyone who enjoys humour in their comics should read the Nextwave trades, its the best thing Marvel has put out in years IMHO.

Its kind of a parody of big dumb fight books, but it enjoys its self far too much to be cynical. Its Warren Ellis, but probably the book most unlike what youd expect from him, apart from the general quality. Shame it didnt last longer

All right, I'm trusting you guys. I just read through "Family Matters" and it's pretty corny so far. It's like something I'd enjoy when I was 10 years old, but not as an adult. I'm gonna stick with it, though. Ryan said on the podcast that it gets good once you get into the teens.

Any good sword and sorcery recommendations? I have two or three issues of a Kull story that I got for free a while back, and I kinda dug 'em. I'm too lazy and tired at the moment to go and dig them out to tell you more about them. Maybe I'll come back and edit this post in the morning.

I recommend Tarot! It's more Whores and Sorcery and less Swords and Sorcery, but there's big-titted ladies in it! And it's super hilarious!

If more people would read Chew that would mean more people would have good taste, thus making the world a better place.

So I have a question about Detective Comics if anyone can answer. Is Batman Bruce Wayne in the new Detective Comics issues or does it keep continuity across the DC universe that he's still trapped in time?

Also, are the recent issues any good? I've been catching up on the Paul Dini DC run from a few years ago and like them a lot.
Thanks!
