Looking at my netflix activity, I watched the first two episodes of season one May 5th of last year. It wasn't until I saw the episode "Silence in the Library" on TV about four weeks ago that I went back and watched all of what I've seen up to now.

It was a little hard to get past the overall look of the first season. It looks like it's from 1985 rather than 2005. I'm glad I came back to it, because there are still great episodes in season 1, but I'm glad that I saw "Library" so I knew it would get better.

Silence in the Library was a Moffat episode, right? That guy is amazing.

Pretty much all the best episodes are Moffat episodes. That's why season 5 is so good.

I've yet to see anything that Moffat has made, that I don't absolutely love.

Edit: Scratch that. I remembered he had a hand in the US version of Coupling. But he regrets it too, so I guess it's ok.

You know what else is amazing about Season 5? The music. It's such a marked improvement over the previous seasons. All the other ones were eclectic in their composition/choice of instrument use. And they were entirely forgettable tunes as well. Plus there wasn't clear and noticeable theme songs - at least in the sense that they weren't used effectively in an episode.

ya, I as thinking of the same thing. I remember thinking of how good the Doctor's theme is in season 5, but couldn't think of any of the tunes from the first 4 seasons, besides the opening theme of course.

Just showed my roommate "Blink", in preparation for the episodes in Season 5 that also have the Weeping Angels. Then before going to bed he went to the bathroom, and I waited outside the door holding a Weeping Angels' attack pose. Dude flipped his shit when he came out and probably woke up the entire complex. lawls!

That episode must have caused so many people to leave far more lights on than usual that night.

Me and my roomie agreed that it was a good episode, but far from the best. It was scary, but it spent most of it's time talking and not scaring, and we both wanted more frights. In that respect, the Season 5 appearances of the Weeping Angels was much better.

The Girl in the Fireplace might be the best episode.

It was pretty good, but I dunno about the best. It was a love story that didn't have payoff and ended in sorrow. I still prefer A Christmas Carol because it was fun and exemplified everything I like in the show.

Just showed the roomies the fish-vampires in Venice episode. God, what a bad episode. We spent the entire time making fun of it. When my roommate started complaining I was like, "You've gotta take the good with the bad. It's just like Star Trek." He took exception to me slandering Star Trek like that when I had to remind him, "Hey man, sometimes there's episodes with Gul Dukat, and sometimes there's episodes with Lwaxana Troi." He agreed.

Fish of Venice not as bad as Silurian 2-parter, though; biggest disappointment of the series for me.

I'm not sure which one you think is good and which you think is bad, but I'm a fan of both. Besides, Lwaxana was more on TNG and Dukat was almost exclusively on DS9.

Gul Dukat is one of the best villains ever. And Lwaxana Troi is just awful. How can you be a fan of the horny, post-menopause, psychc mother-in-law from space? It's like her character was engineered from the ground up to be as obnoxious as possible.

True she could be obnoxious, but that was part of her comedy. Plus she became very likable when she romanced Odo (mostly because she became less obnoxious then). Besides, she's the mother of Star Trek, so how can you dislike her?

No no no, see she was even worse then. The episode where her super-pheremones destroyed DS9 was easily the worst episode of DS9, bar none.

The same way I dislike the father of Star Trek. That first season of TNG was awful.

If you were to show someone one episode of Doctor Who in order to convince them to start watching it, what episode would it be?

I'm thinking the first episode of season 5.

I've used the first episode of season 5 multiple times to great success.

Never show people Space Titanic, however. That will cause people to shun Doctor Who for life.

Ep1 of season 5, without a doubt.
But "Midnight" has worked for me in the past, too.

There's something about the first episode of season 5 which I don't like, but I can't quite put my finger on it. I may have to watch it again (even though I just re-watched the whole season). That being said, I find season 5 to be the best all around season.
