First movie for the Moviebox is Bobloblaw pick and he chose Night of the Creeps.

In 1959, an alien experiment crashes to earth and infects a fraternity member. They freeze the body, but in the modern day, two geeks pledging a fraternity accidentally thaw the corpse, which proceeds to infect the campus with parasites that transform their hosts into killer zombies.

Directed by Fred Dekker

Got it next on my Netflix queue. Should get it Monday or Tuesday. It's been forever since I've seen it. So is the plan to not talk about the movie until the 24th, or will it be an as you watch it type of thing?

Type as you watch. Should we use spoiler tags in this thread or assume spoilers could drop at any moment?

Using spoiler tags is probably the smart thing to do, and post as you watch it.

You think it would be bad form to PM Higgins asking him to sticky this thread? I don't want to backseat mod or anything.

I'm down with that. I pay for a vent server, we could use that for recording... as long as it's not on Tuesday or Wednesday. My WoW guild raids on those days, so the server will be filled up.

I also used to do the recordings for one of the 1up user podcasts. As long as I'm not the show- host, I'm fine. :)

I'm down for Thursday. We should probably get a fourth and possibly fifth chair. I also have no clue as to the audio fidelity of Vent. Skype > Vent? Anyways, incoming impressions:
Spoiler: show
I was born in the nineties, this movie was odd. A world before CGI and cliches ran rampant, this eighties movie is a pretty great example of ...quirky? The opening scene with the aliens gave me a pretty huge "WTF" feeling going into it, and this is compounded by the somewhat hazy serial axe murderer section. I found the practical effects on the first "victim" to be somewhat charming, but the somewhat haphazard make up job on the "dates" later on in the film looked pretty ridiculous. Now onto the questions/observations:

1) So wtf exactly happened with the whole axe murderer detective bit. I think I may have started playing Just Cause while the detective went on his whole monologue with Spanky (spanky? head nerd). The impression I got is that the detective shot the guy his ex-girlfriend was seeing, but wasn't that the escaped "mental patient". Or did he think he shot his ex-girlfriend's new squeeze when he actually shot escaped mental patient? I know frozen guy was the REAL ex-girlfriend's boyfriend but wtf. This didn't really effect my feelings towards the film but it was fairly glaring.

2) How do you NOT NOTICE SOMEONE'S A ZOMBIE? It's probably just to make the audience feel some sort of dramatic irony "hur hur we know something she doesn't", but honestly? Come on, 1986.

3) So was the escaped mental patient infected? How is that possible if the boyfriend was the first one to come in contact with alien?

3) I was digging the whole 1959 motif. The whole 1986 frat boy woo animal house thing didn't really do it for me. If it were a spoof of old 1950's horror movies I think I would have been a tad more interested.

4) Titties. Yo dog, i heard you like titties so we put some titties in your 1980's horror flick. The first bit with the nightie kind of made sense, but the second section with the panning across shower stalls was a tad gratuitous.

5) Let's settle this right now: They're infected, not zombies. They don't die AND THEN rise, they are killed by the infection of these worm-alien things.

6) Why do all hot chicks in the 1980's dress like my mother? It's disconcerting.

Overall, pretty good flick. It's one of those "watch once" kind of movies, nothing really special but interesting to watch nonetheless.

Skype is great if all members involved have a great internet connection and are relatively close. With a vent server, the audio fidelity may go down a bit, but it's pretty consistent. Either way, I'm cool with doing the recording/backend. :)

We used to have a guy on the podcast who skyped in from the middle of nowhere. He would cut out all the time and it wound up being a problem. But, if we only had 2 people connected to him, he was fine.

Maybe we should test run in thread, before we move on to a podcast. The discussions could very well be boring as fuck and no one should ever have to actually listen or waste bandwidth on our boring asses.

Fucking Blu-ray is vlw on netflix so I will be saddled with the dvd version. I added BITCH SLAP and DRAG ME TO HELL to complement it though. Breaks the pace from the SIX FEET UNDER and NIP/TUCK marathons Ive been going thru.
