Moviebox: 7/4-7/10: "Clue"

It is an awesome movie and you should feel bad if you haven't seen it yet.

Synopsis
Spoiler: show
In this spoof of McCarthy-era paranoia and 1950s wholesomeness, the characters and plot are drawn from the popular Parker Brothers board game of the same name. On a dark and stormy night in 1954, six individuals with ties to Washington are assembled for a dinner party at the swanky mansion of one Mr. Boddy (Lee Ving). Boddy's butler, Wadsworth (Tim Curry), assigns each guest a colorful name: Mr. Green (Michael McKean), Col. Mustard (Martin Mull), Mrs. Peacock (Eileen Brennan), Professor Plum (Christopher Lloyd), Miss Scarlet (Lesley Ann Warren), and Mrs. White (Madeline Kahn). Two additional servants, the Cook (Kellye Nakahara) and Yvette, the maid (Colleen Camp), assist Wadsworth as he informs the guests that they have been gathered to meet the man who has been blackmailing them: Mr. Boddy. When Boddy turns up dead, however, the guests must try to figure out who killed him so they can protect their own reputations and keep the body count from growing.

I'm glad you approve. I was going back and forth between Clue and Toys, for about a month. I finally just rewatched them both and decided that I felt better after watching Clue than I did watching Toys...but it's still a good movie.

Also: This is my favorite Tim Curry movie.

Fun Fact:

Watch for Jane Wiedlin as "Singing Telegraph Girl" in this film. Some might remember her as singer of a hot track from our very first Moviebox selection.

Funner Fact: Jane also portrayed Joan of Motherfucking Arc in Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure! Woah!

Damnit, two movies in a row I adore. Is there any way I can get in on the movie box late? If not, that's cool, I'll be in the nearest corner crying myself to sleep

Spoiler: show
Since I've seen this quite a few times, I've started trying to figure out who is missing from the room during each scene.

...but then I get distracted by how awesome the movie is, and forget to keep track half way through.

If this movie was made today, it would suck giant donkey balls. The character interactions are priceless, and that's something you just don't get in modern movies.

I agree; the movie is all writing and performance. Lesser actors than Tim Curry and Madeline Kahn and the movie falls apart (not that the other actors aren't great, its just that these two stick out in my mind). I often wonder how much of the movie was written and how much was adlibbed (though its well know that this scene was adlibbed).

[Note: I feel like this is the second time I've posted this clip on these forums. So funny.]

Great pick. Clue was one of those movies I always wanted to see but never got around to watching. I like the idea of releasing the film with the different endings to different theaters. Which ending did you like the best? Personally, I liked the third.

Funny you should mention that ...

In February 2009, Universal Studios announced that a remake of the film was in the works. It will be directed by Gore Verbinski, and is set for release in 2011.
