The first teaser trailer is out, so how 'bout we start a new thread for this one (keep it separate from the TV show discussion).

Edit: For whatever reason, the Japanese trailer gets an extra scene:

Damn, eX, you posted that just as I was editing my original post.

Anyway, this only continues to fuel speculation that Benedict Cumberbatch is playing Khan.

I'm wondering if I should delete that post because that extra scene seems SUPER spoilery. Higgins will be pissed if he watches it.

Also not enough lens flare.

It *seems* spoilery, and that's probably they point. They're not going to release that trailer and that scene without knowing the reaction it would evoke (especially with how closely guarded J.J. Abrams is about plot/story/characters/everything/etc.).

Also not enough lens flare.

Like there won't be 600% more lens flare in the finished movie.

It probably is misdirection but that wont stop the internet from freaking out about it

There better be or I'll be sending some strongly worded tweets to everyone involved.

Here's the trailer in HD

The Japanese trailer making visual allusions to The Wrath of Khan pisses me off more than anything else. Fuck, tell an original story for once, Abrams. As for the trailer - looks like Abrams's Trek alright. Pretty excited for this bastard film, even if Gene Roddenberry is clearly rolling over in his grave. You guys ready for Star Trek: The Empire Strikes Back???

As new and "edgy" as Star Trek (2009) was, it still always felt like Star Trek. I'm having a hard time seeing the Star Trek in that trailer. Maybe once they release the first 9 minutes we'll get to see something.

I watched it, and I swear to god, if that's the ending and they put it in the trailer, I will never watch another trailer ever again.

Also, fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucking aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawesome.

Real Trek fans know it's Gary Mitchell.

Yeah but the Khan stuff in the trailer is also kinda potent. Did anybody catch the blond girl from the episode of TOS? I wonder if she's going to be the same exact character.

Ricardo Montalban > Sherlock

Pretty sad that for as much as JJ Abrams sucks he was still able to make Star Trek fun. He couldn't do that with pretty much any other nerd IP.

I kinda agree. There wasn't nearly enough people walking around in Starfleet uniforms. Although the whole trailer is redeemed anytime the Enterprise shows up. Cause ffuuuuuckkkk, after 50 years, that ship is still a beaut and I love any chance a film or a movie gives the ship a cool flyby sequence or something. Secret best part of Trek '09 was the Enterprise slowly rising from the clouds of Titan (I think or Saturn), and I got some great vibes like that from when the Enterprise crashing into and then rising from the SF Bay.

Yeah I know it seems obvious but I was talking about her "character".

Spoilers for the episode of Star Trek this movie seems to be mostly based on.
Spoiler: show
In the episode she gets the same powers that Gary Mitchell does and she joins him but Kirk ultimately convinces her that what he's doing is wrong and she stops him at the cost of her life.

I just want to say old lady from the 60s is about 3 levels of attractiveness more hot than the new girl.

This is a still from the future-SF skyline:

This is a funny image to me, because it's clearly a composite, and not just in the "well duh, there's fake future buildings there" kind of way. They stuck the Trans-American Pyramid out of place just to that people could have both that and the GGBridge in the same shot for easy identification that this is indeed SF.

Hmm, well the old lady looks kinda like Betty Draper and I can't stand that bitch... But the new chick has some sort of weird Amy Poehler crazy eyes thing going on, so it's kind of a wash.

"Fans who couldn't get enough will be able to sift through nine minutes of footage of the film before "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" in select IMAX theaters."

I resolved to not see The Hobbit, but it looks like I'll have to now...

According to a recently released captioned photo, Paramount has revealed that Benedict Cumberbatch will be playing John Harrison.
Though, that name might be just an alias.

I've always thought there was a strong likelihood that the villain would be a composite character of previous villains, so this just adds additional credence to that idea, IMO.
