I'm no expert on The Flash or anything, but if Captain Cold's only "power" is that he has a gun that makes things cold, why can't Flash just run at him real fast and take his gun away?

Or run at him real fast and punch him in his dick? That seems to work with most of the other villains.

It projects a "Cold Field" around him, slowing everything down. "He is the master of Absolute Zero."

They don't really mention that in the show. Am I supposed to just know that? Does CC sleep with the gun under his pillow? Flash should just stalk him until he goes to sleep and then jack that shit. I find it really hard to believe that a dude with super speed couldn't find some way to take a gun away from a guy.

The Flash is as fast as the writer needs him to be, with the applied intelligence that the writer needs for any given situation.
Don't be Ryan Scott. Yes, he should be able to solve all crime because Speed Force. But he doesn't. That is comic books for you.

The Captain Cold episode was easily the best episode of Flash, but only because 1. the actor they got to play CC is maaaaaaarginally better than the pieces of driftwood they got to play the first 3 villains, and 2. Felicity. So really it was mostly only good because of Arrow anyways.

I bet the show watches a bit worse when binge-watched, as opposed to watching week to week. The cliffhangers at the ends of episodes are like comics. A thing to make you excited for next episode/issue. Yeah, it is dumb fan bait to trap you into watching, but it works on me.

I feel like the Captain Cold episode at the very end of the first season does a pretty good job of establishing Cold as a dude that the Flash can't keep under wraps completely and can outsmart 'em.

Then and again, this is probably the stupidest version of Barry ever written doe.

It's kind of amazing that Barry ever wins in the show. Does he ever have victories without his support team coaching him through things?

Barry is barely a functional human being, given how retarded he is. Part of that is, as you allude to Cross, simply the show giving his sidekicks enough crap to do to justify their existence, which unfortunately has the side effect of making the Flash seem completely inept. But holy cow, remember the episode with the shapeshifter???

Arrow never has these problems however, given how frequently he bristles against his team's advice, and how we constantly see him acting competently solo during all the flashbacks.

No, sorry. The cliffhangers in this show aren't cliffhangers. By definition they are not cliffhangers at all. They don't even directly pertain to the goings on of the next episode. They are tiny morsels of big picture teases meant to get nerds moist, but they are not cliffhangers. I actually hate them. I hate all of them. I don't care what scheme Doctor Dipshit from the future is up to. Just tell me already or shut the fuck up.

I agree about this Barry being a fucking retard too. I get they were trying to translate the command center approach that Arrow took as an easy way to give the show a similar supporting cast, but these characters that are supposed to be supporting Barry actually just make him look dumber. It doesn't help that they're awful actors too, even by WB standards. The science chick that lost her fiance or whatever is so fucking awful actually it hurts to watch her try to display emotion. I also don't get why both of these shows are so arbitrary with who knows the main character's secret.

Same way comic books occasionally just have a thing at the end of an issue, and start the next without showing the immediate fallout of that thing. It is just a hype thing.

The thing is, it doesn't have to be this way though. Like, the different support characters have their scientific specialties to supplement Barry's CSI investigations, and Barry himself should be able to bring his own expertise to the table. Like, I still won't forgive the show for forgetting about how Barry used his forensic skills in the first episode, and how neat the show displayed all the information as an overlay over reality to give us an insight into Barry's mind. That version of Barry is a genius, and most of the show should be centered around Barry trying to solve mysteries. And once he solves them, then he runs superfast to apprehend the culprit like a Superhero version of Law & Order. Instead, Barry runs in circles and gets constantly BTFO'd by people that shouldn't give him any trouble whatsoever because he's a fucking numbskull, and then we watch him continually run himself into metaphorical brickwalls face first until someone on his team thinks up the appropriate counter to the bad guy's weakspot/flaw. THE BAD GUY'S WEAKSPOT/FLAW SHOULD JUST BE THE FLASH KNOWING WHO YOU ARE AND BEATING YOU UNCONSCIOUS BEFORE YOU KNOW WHAT HIT YOU.

I think they did that 1 more time during the season. It might have just been a pilot thing for what they thought it could be, to sell to the network. It does suck that it didn't get used more often.

The Captain Cold and Heat Wave acting is the best on the show. The actors clearly know what kind of the show they're doing and they lean into it.

I hope you can keep pace this season. It's a lot of fun to watch along and talk about all the dumb shit happening every week.

LiQuid wrote:OMG. Captain Boomerang is the catalyst for the Flarrow crossover! What a time to be alive!
TFW Boomerang was supposed to be in the show more, and they pulled him - along with the rest of the Suicide Squad - because we can't confuse the viewers with the new movie coming out!

It's really too bad they didn't just make Atom into Blue Beetle like they obviously intended from the onset.

Thought the premiere was a little too quick. They could have set it up so it would take a few episodes to let thimgs that happened settle in. Just like Gotham, it's moving a bit fast but otherwise OK.

Sucks being behind on these again. I tried really hard to marathon them in time to get caught up for the premieres but I got to the episode 12s of both of the previous seasons of this and Arrow and I kind of got sidetracked, using most of my TV watching time to burn thru the first couple seasons of Seinfeld. New goal is to get fully caught up on both shows in time for Legends. Try not to spoil me too hard friends.

Joe being completely incapable of wrapping his brain around the simple idea of different universes is not a good look for a man allegedly smart enough to be a detective...

For all the other stuff he deals with, including but not limited to time-travel, a multiverse seemed like a fairly tame concept to wrap you mind around.

Jesus H Christ, soooooo much dad-porn.

Also, holy moley, that's some phony baloney science there in this episode. Ultraviolet cold? Freezing laser beams?? An oxidizing bomb that won't oxidize when inside a human full of oxidized blood??? Flash writers just don't give a fuck no more.
