Supergirl series going to CBS

CBS is going all in with a new Supergirl show - which they've given an official series commitment to, bypassing both the "in development" and "pilot" stage.

Supergirl, a new one hour drama, will come to us from Berlanti Productions (both Arrow and The Flash on The CW) in association with Warner Bros. Television. Greg Berlanti and Ali Adler (Chuck, No Ordinary Family) will serve as writers, while also serving as EPs alongside Sarah Schechter.

Based on the characters from DC Comics, Supergirl will follow Kara Zor-El. Born on the planet Krypton, Kara escaped amid its destruction years ago. And since arriving on Earth, she’s been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin. But now at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.

I love Arrow but it makes me happy to see shows coming out now with heroes with actual superpowers. I just wish this was a Wonder Woman show instead of a Supergirl show.

Wonder Woman has had a TV show before, I'm glad they're making a show for a character that hasn't had one yet.

I kind of wish this was on CW so it could be in the same universe as Arrow and The Flash but I'm cool with it being its own thing.

Wonder Woman had a corny TV show before. She's still DC's best female character and hasn't yet made an appearance in this new age of comic book adaptations, which sucks. Now she's going to be a bit character in a Superman movie. It's like DC hates women.

It's funny to me that you assume that this won't lead into her having her own movie in the not too distant future.

Even if it does I would rather have a Wonder Woman TV show than a movie. Comic book movies bore the shit out of me. Comic book movies are so manicured for mass appeal that they're formulaic and visually numbing. TV shows, even when done cheesy as shit like Arrow, serve the comic book adaptation so much better because they can add all the dumb references, ridiculous cliffhangers and can play a lot looser with the fringes of that universe. This is why the Marvel's The Potato joke works. Because the only thing comic book nerds give a shit about when watching those movies is what kind of retarded tease or cliffhanger they can cram into those movies that will tease the next one. TV gives you that on a weekly basis.

Doesn't CBS have ownership over CW alongside Warner Bros?

The CW is 50% Warner and 50% CBS, yes.

It's still doubtful that it will be in the same universe of TV shows that air on another network.

They both started on WB. Buffy was only on UPN for the last two seasons.

So what you're trying to say is, Supergirl is a shitty character.

I think Berlanti Productions is the secret link of the "Pretty girl who's actually ugly" phenomenon.

Darfox, stop throwing all that shade around. It can't be good for you. Also, what is the actress's name?

She's not remotely ugly... but she has really tiny eyes that are recessed deep into her head, making her look like cromagnon man or something. I think if her eyes were like, 10% larger in comparison to the retail space on her face, or if they came forward a centimeter or two, it would be a whole other story.

And when you get to nitpicking details that small, you've probably gone way too far in your quest to try to paint someone as ugly.

I will say however, that the women's hairstyle of taking the bangs and then pulling it straight back and pinning it down is the single worst thing to have come out of the 2000s. Probably the worst hairstyle in the history of mankind. I'd rather see a bob-cut, or that thing girls started doing like 5 or so years ago where they buzz only one side of their head above the ear.

We've already had a pixie cut revival so as far as I'm concerned ladies' hair has peaked until the next time that comes full circle and back into style.

No way dude, this is the worst haircut of all time. I hate this shit.

I'd take pinned bangs over this monstrosity any day. Don't need otherwise attractive women walking around looking like fucking Skrillex.

That's a bad hairstyle, but it's not remotely worse than pinned bangs. Because I've seen people rock that haircut and look fucking hot as fuck. It's just really hard to pull off. Pinned bangs is probably the worst thing since AIDS.

Besides, it's honestly only one step away from this:

And I find that amazing/hilarious, whereas pinned bangs is basically a war crime.

Skirt + tights + thigh boots. I don't get this combination. Also she's kinda ordinary looking for a superheroine, but maybe they cast her for her acting ability, which I'd be alright with.

She's cute in street clothes. Is she just making a crooked face or something in the costume pics? She looks like a doofus there.

I don't really know jack nor shit about Supergirl other than what I learned in the first 2-3 issues of the nu52 book, which was that she was a more boring version of actual Superman. Still gonna watch this I guess.

That's literally all there is to the character. She's actually the worst. There's still time, CBS! Change the show into Powergirl!

I know that the artist drawing Power Girl started making her boobs bigger every issue just to see if the Editors were paying attention. They finally noticed a handful of issue in and her growth stopped. Thus Power Girl as we know her. Thanks lazy Editors.

Cool story wiki-chan. Meanwhile though, in other comics, she's a pretty dope character.
