Im not sure about this show. It has Wil Wheaton sometimes and some good jokes wich is cool but, the laugh track is disgusting. Sometimes this show feels like its the black face equivalent for geeks.

I had to quote it just to see it again. God I really hate that actual geeks enjoy this show. I can understand my mother loving this show. She's a damn moron. But the people in this thread... Man I just don't get it.

Hate to ruin the magic for you but live studio audiences are frequently encouraged to laugh, even when the potency of the material would dictate otherwise.

If you bothered to actually watch the show, you'd see that it's not about the fact that geek culture is in the spotlight. It's more (for me at least) about Jim Parsons, who has great comedic timing and the show wouldn't be nearly as entertaining with some one else portraying Sheldon.

That was a hell of a series ending.

Anyway, fuck the "it's just not a portrayal of geeks" shit, the typical Chuck Lorre portrayal of the sexes is far fucking worse. Charlie Harper is an alcoholic, over-sexed washout hero on Two and a Half Men, but Penny is constantly portrayed as an idiot or plain slutty on Big Bang Theory and has been with far fewer people on the show. There's not a single nice and straight-played girl on the show, not even Bernadette.

For all intents and purposes, the live studio audience damages the perception of a show just as much as an overused laugh track. I'm not saying the laugher is completely unjustified in every situation, but it is far too abundant and overused in BBT. In that video I linked, one of the highest rated comments is:

Great news, my mom sent me my old Nintendo 64: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...
etc...

Which illustrates what is wrong about a laugh track/live studio audience. The laughter, whether prerecorded or live, is designed to make a completely unfunny line "funny" to the viewer.

Two and a Half men was brought up. I don't particularly like that show but I've seen episodes and sure it can be funny at times, but the overuse of the laughing is there too (you can find many similar laugh-less videos on YouTube) that really shed light on how much of that laughing is actually justified and how much isn't. I'm not saying BBT is completely without humor, but so much of its production and execution is really really bad to me.

Yes, yes you do. I thought the finale was the best episode of the season. Several times I had to pause or rewind because I was laughing so hard.

Never identified with Howard so much - all of my friends have advanced degrees, but I'm the only one who hasn't graduated from college.

Raj and Penny didn't actually have sex. She only helped him put on the condom, and he came instantly.

Glad that Penny will (seemingly) get her acting career on track this season. She can only be working at the Cheesecake Factory so long before her character stays one-dimensional.
