I've seen the first 2 seasons as well as about half the third. I used to watch with my girlfriend's little brother, but since he stopped watching I've also stopped watching as well. I thought the first 2 seasons were great but the 3rd started to drag and I haven't been back since =\

Can't wait for the Twin Peaks episode in the 5th season. They already had at least three actors from the show as guest stars in other episodes. You can tell that the guest stars a lot of times are just people they were already fans of, what with Judd Nelson, Jeri Ryan, Col. Tigh from BSG, etc. all making guest appearances. Must be such a fun show to make.

The 4th season is the best one, imo. You should try another go at it... Psych doesn't exactly require prior knowledge of the end of season 3 so you should be fine.

Been seeing commercials for Psych during wrestling and it's starting to pique my curiosity just a bit. Saw a spot where they were singing along to that song from The Breakfast Club. I could swear there was some other reference I liked too but I can't remember what it was.

Psych is a fun show. I regret not giving it a chance earlier. I was initially put off by how ridiculous the characters were and the situations they got into - it was almost the level of Always Sunny. But if you watch the show from the beginning, it's a lot easier to get into because like most shows of this nature, they're extremely flanderized throughout the course of the show, and it's a little easier to take it seriously and become a fan early on.

Psych is heavy on the 80's pop culture references. Very heavy.

Hence why I love it so.

I meant that as a positive. Maybe I didn't make that clear.

I'm reviving this thread because I caught the season 7 premiere of Psych, but still have no cable and no more episodes are being shown (legally) on the internet. How is season 7 so far? It's still hilarious, but it's taking a slightly more gritty tone

Season 7 of Psych has been great so far but I think they are falling into the Simpsons trap of the characters becoming caricatures of themselves, Gus especially

This is absolutely happening, and I think the show is worse for it. But it's not so bad and still a funny show. And it's a lot less obnoxious than what happened in Monk - where 10 years in he's somehow regressed when it comes to his issues and not making any character development over the course of the show.

Spent the last few days marathoning Psych in order to catch up. This show is a billion times better than Monk, but most of that has to do with the show's staying power. After a couple of seasons of the same Monk-is-afraid-of-everything-jokes repurposed over and over again, I found the show going from brilliant, to bland, to downright boring. In the meanwhile, the Psych-bromance thing they have going on hasn't worn out its welcome yet or become boring (and I'm not really even sure why; maybe it's just a matter of attitude - it's more fun to see guys having fun versus the same idiot being a ninny about germs). I've complained about the flanderization of the characters before, but it could be a lot worse.

My one real complaint about the show though is O'Hara. Juliet is the worst. She's a cross between a Mary Sue and male wish fulfillment. Her character has no agency and I can't understand what she sees in Shawn, considering he's constantly doing shit to piss her off, yet she puts up with him, and subsequently dates him for no reason. Honestly, I wouldn't even be that upset with this, but the coup de grace is that she's just boring. She has no character. She's bland in the worst way possible for a TV show character. I don't know if it's the actor's fault or the way she's written - I suspect a little bit of both. I wish her and the police chief could swap roles though, because she manages to be far more interesting and emotive.

Also, who wants to bet that when the show ends, it'll end with Shawn finally becoming an actual detective and joining the police force and/or getting a legit detective licence. It'll be just like Monk - where they finally make personal strides in overcoming their defining character flaws, but only at the very end where you no longer need to maintain a status quo.

I'd fallen behind on Psych. Hadn't seen the musical or anything after it. I love this show, but a 2 hr musical always seemed too daunting to just sit down and enjoy in my spare time, since 2 hrs is a lot of time and I'm not the biggest fan of musicals. Caught up to and watched the ending. I love how the old chief of police still gets top billing in the intro credits even though she's barely in the show. The show ended, and I'm OK with where it went. I thought they could have done a lot more with developing Sean Spencer's character in this final season - in terms of him coming to terms with his own immaturity and needing to grow up. But things were fine. I hated the remake episode, because it was stupid. I don't care if the whole thing is meta-commentary on the needless and pointlessness of remakes. It was just stupid. And also, I HATE Juliet. She's a boring character. I thought it was funny that at some point in the final season, an ancillary character off-handedly remarks how they didn't buy their romance, and I don't either. I think every minute the show wastes on that is time we could be having more fun brotastic moments. But overall, I liked the show. It was more consistently entertaining than Monk was (even if the highs of Monk were better than the highs of Psych). I'm kinda sad to see the show go since this is a formula I didn't really mind repeating ad nauseum (unlike Monk), but cest la vie.

The musical is...not the best. The entire last season is kinda weird, honestly. It's worth getting to the finale, though, as it's about as classic as an episode of Psych I think they've had. Great ending.

The finale was good up until Juliet had to show up and open her big stupid mouth.
