Postby Rydog » Oct 21st, 2009 @ 6:00pm

Rebel FM's Anthony Gallegos joins us for this week's episode, where we find out once and for all whether the Geekbox really does give AIDS (spoiler: it doesn't). Give it a listen right here!

The "fixed" season premiere of The Venture Brothers was excellent. --but this is probably something I should say on the TV board.

For the record, there was no season 2 of Clone High. Not even here in Canada.

Wooo anime talk on Geekbox! But Master Higgins should speak up more. We all know of his festish for anime. He seemed like he was afraid that they were going to make fun of him or something. I guess if the members of the podcast don't typically watch anime they shouldn't force a conversation about it. But they could of talked so much on Satoshi Kon alone. It's a shame.

Well Ryan, I guess you're 36 episodes in and if I haven't learned by now that the show notes don't always represent the topics that are seriously discussed, its my own fault.

Really though, I was hoping for some real Tekken 6 talk. I figured "Hey, this is the guy who argued that Ryu's fake fireball in SF2:HDR ads depth to the game. He really gets it! I want to hear what he has to say about Tekken 6." But I guess you're not a Tekken fan. :P

Anyway, I'd like to extend an invitation to be a guest on my show sometime. You can find it over at http://www.moofpack.com I realize you might be too busy being an internet rockstar and all, but if you have Skype and some extra time, it'd be great to have you on sometime. We are primarily a games podcast, but we hit up movies and music sometimes too. We've been at it for over a year and I wanted to talk to you at PAX after the Brodeo reunion, but you were mobbed with fans. But anyway, the show pretty much exists because I was a big fan of the Brodeo and it reminded me of my friends and I on Xbox LIVE.

Alright, I'm out. Nice show this week aside from the Tekken snubbing. :) It'd be cool to hear you guys talk about some of the recent releases next week (UC2, Brutal Legend, Borderlands, Demon's Souls, etc).

Am I missing something or could your site really benefit from having links to the podcasts you've written summary's for?

Since you guys like Clone High, I suggest checking out Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs (the movie, not the book) as it was written and directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the creator of Clone High. I personally haven't had the chance to see it yet, but I've heard that it's actually pretty awesome despite the seemingly kiddy trappings.

Don't forget Bill Lawrence, a.k.a. the creator of Scrubs. There was a lot of talent crossover between Scrubs and Clone High while they were both on the air. Also, anyone know why the DVD set was only released in Canada and not in the US?

So is there going to be a topic made for the costume contest or do you post it here or is a thread going up with next week's episode? Seeing as that will be closer to Halloween.

Also for those wondering about Clone High it aired on Teletoon and they usually have it as part of The Detour lineup. (late night show segment it's recently been renamed Teletoon at Night) Also contrary to what Mike said about getting a Season 2 there was no Season 2 we got the second part of season 1. (5 episodes that didn't air on MTV for those down south) Oh and if you are interested Nelvana (with Teletoon) released the DVD for season 1 (all 13 episodes) 4 years ago so you could import it from Canada if you wanted. Or if you don't want to deal with the horrors of international shipping to/from the U.S.A. I suppose you could spam whoever holds the liscense to it in the U.S. and hope they try to distribute it.

For those looking for some crazy over the top anime that's new I would recommend Gurren Lagann it's basically a mix between mecha and comedy some of the more fanservicey stuff could get annoying I suppose but the whole show is so ridiculously over the top although it gets somewhat more dramatic in the second half of the series.

As for just an awesome anime series I would recommend BECK:Mongolian Chop Squad (ya it's my user icon currently) It's a show that's somewhat about a kid growing up through high school having to deal with bullies, girls and the like but the majority of the show about a struggling band playing small bands in Japan he's joined that is trying to make it big and all the drama that goes along with that.

I will say though I highly recommend watching it in English as the voice acting is terrific and in both the japanese and english many of the characters speak english during parts of the show (resulting in really bad engrish) and all the songs played are sung in english, which really works for one of the vocalist of the band (Chiba) as he is basically a reference to Zack De La Rocha of Rage Against the Machine and the english voice (Justin Cook) is very evocative of Zack where as the japanese one has this weird kind of lisp when he is singing/rapping.

Oh it also has a great manga that finished last year not sure what volume Tokyopop has translated up to yet though.

I could recommend some more stuff but this post is kind of long already.

Also, did anybody else pick up on the fact that Karen admitted to having a crush on Trunks back in her DBZ watching days, and thinks Ryan looks like / should dress up as Trunks for Halloween?

Oh, man. When you make the reference to Dave Matthews dumping shit on people, I thought you were talking about his music. And I agreed with you.

Also, bring on the 'pox! I've been immunized, so screw all the rest of you.

Technically it was Tropico 2 they were talking about. Apparently 3 isn't out yet.
