The Geekbox: Episode 51

Postby Rydog » Feb 2nd, 2010 @ 10:55am

Starting with this week's episode (where Mike Cruz makes his triumphant return), we're gonna be publishing during daytime hours on Tuesdays so we stay caught up with Lost. Speaking of which.. OMG LOST TONIGHT. Can't wait. :)

Since we're now okay with giving spoilers with minimal warning, here are some more:

Spoiler: show
- You fight an unfinished human Reaper at the end of Mass Effect 2.
- The Collectors are actual Protheans, twisted by the Reapers to do their bidding.
- The multiplayer for Bioshock 2 is really rather good.

Holy Mike Cruz is back Batman.

So Fitch finding sexual tension between characters where everyone else says no? Freudian slip perhaps?

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: WIZARD IS ASS.

It used to be an excellent and very relevant publication about the industry, with sneak peeks at upcoming titles, crossover projects in TV and movies, and in-depth profiles of artists/writers. I still remember the article they had about Michael Turner as he was battling cancer and it really choked me up. Ever since they went to the larger Rolling Stone-esqe format, it rapidly went downhill. And the other Gareb Shamus publications have followed suit. Anime Insider? Garbage. Toyfare? Pathetic. My local store stopped carrying it altogether, because no customer has picked it up in the last four months.

My friend's parents are a Nielsen house, or at least, they were 5 or 6 year ago. As I remember, the way it worked then was that Nielsen had a special remote with buttons assigned to each member of the household and that's how they kept track of who was watching what in the house (assuming that everyone remembered to press their button every time they either got up from or sat down in front of the TV). Either way, its an antiquated system to track TV ratings and needs to go.

I wish I had some Vegas suggestions for Mike Cruz, but all I ever do is gamble and drink, and that probably isn't much help.

I don't understand. If the podcast goes up on Tuesdays...and new Lost episodes air on Tuesdays...wouldn't you guys be a whole week late when each podcast goes up? I just finished watching the premiere episode and then went on iTunes to discover that this week's Geekbox episode was up.

Wouldn't it make more sense to record and put up a new episode on Wednesdays? (if time and work schedule of the cast permitted, of course)

Anyway, I'll give it a listen tomorrow!

How many Gabrielle ANWRs would you guys give Arthur Goose? I'd give him a solid 9.

EDIT: That's another Firefox 3.6 bug to do with PHP...

Aaaaaanyway, the original message was:

I believe it's because it gives people time to have watched it so they can't scream "I haven't had a chance to see it yet, spoilers!"

Okay so great episode as always, but you were saying Mike needs some suggestions for his trip to Vegas, having just been there for the first time in December I found myself at sort of a loss as for what to do seeing as how I am not much of a gambler.

My top two suggestions would be to visit the Gun Store which is an indoor firearms range just off of Tropicana Avenue near the strip, they have over 100 guns you can fire on their range up to and including belt fed machine guns, if you have never fired one before, its really an experience you have to try. You can visit there website at http://www.thegunstorelasvegas.com for more information or to view their selection. It should be noted you don't need any special licenses or permits as they have certified instructors with you at all times who will provide safe and fun enjoyment throughout your visit, you will need two forms of photo ID and will need to sign a waiver.

My second suggestion if you have access to a car would be to visit the Hoover Dam via Helicopter. I didn't think I would enjoy it as much as my friends did, but I have to say its really impressive and worth the trip. If you travel from Las Vegas to the Hoover Dam you will come to the Hacienda Hotel and Casino which was transplated off the strip a few years ago. The Helicopter tours leave from the Hacienda several times a day and since its around $50 per person its really an affordable way to have a once in a lifetime experience. The Hacienda Casino and Resort can be contacted at http://www.haciendaonline.com.

I hope you have a great trip, remember to let everyone know what you saw and what you did, Vegas was and is the most impressive place I have ever been and I cannot wait for my return trip, but people need to see there is other things to do out there other than blow money at the tables.

Two things:

1) Mega Man 2 and 3 form the creative pinnacle of the NES series. Both have excellent music, robot bosses, and stage designs. 3 was longer, but not by much more. That was because you fought the bosses from 2 over with the weapons from 3, which was a pretty cool idea. And if I remember correctly, 4 was pretty long too, because you had to fight Dr. Cossack's castle, then Dr. Wily's Castle. And in 5, you had to fight Proto Man's castle, then Dr. Wily's castle.

2) I want to be a crew member aboard the Starship Adolf Hitler or the Starship Rape. And before anyone tags me an inhuman monster, it's the fact that it's SO WRONG and against Gene Roddenberry's vision that makes it so funny!

I wonder if someone has a Starship that is some kind of advertisement for some kind of product.

The Hoover Dam trip sounds pretty cool -- I think we've decided on at least one thing we want to do when we're there: we want to check out the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop that's featured on History Channel's Pawn Stars! It would be cool to talk to the guy that runs it, Rick; he's got this ridiculously deep knowledge of Americana, and what he doesn't know, he's got an army of specialists he can call in for advice.
