There aren't any surprises here, most of what everyone else listens to is what I listen to. I usually start off with The Skeptics' Guide, follow it with This American Life, then This Week in Tech (but only if John C. Dvorak is on that week). CAGcast, Rebel, Retronauts, and Geekbox are usually next depending on whether or not they've updated. Then it's Marketplace, The Economist, 1up's slew of remaining casts. Some science casts, geek casts, NPR casts, oh and of course my own podcast at http://flist.8bitches.com The F-List.

A Life Well Wasted is probably my new favorite podcast. It is really incredible.

Ok like some others this is my first posting and I thought I would post my top 10 in order of which I look forward to listening.

I'm sad to say that Geekbox isn't my number one (it's getting there ;) )

1. Gamers with Jobs
2. Geekbox
3. Out of the Game (just recently added and is climbing my chart quickly)
4. A Life Well Wasted
5. GameSpy
6. Rebel FM
7. Ebay Radio
8. Maximum PC No BS
9. Smodcast
10. 1UP

I loved GFW Radio and I have to say Geekbox has done a good job of filling that void.

Shane served as the comic foil on top of providing the stabilizing force of usually having the opposing point of view. Without him, the show has (somehow) gotten snarkier, less focused, is filled with unbalanced coverage of shooters and action games, and with even more rampant X-Box on-air fellatio. Garnett needs to pull it in and take control or the show is doomed.

I feel like their PS3 coverage has improved recently (if only because there is more to talk about). Much as I dislike the 360, I am skeptical of bias accusations. That being said, I agree with your ranking, particularly because most episodes now devolve into bickering between Garnet and Ellis over shit that no one really cares about.

Yeah, well you said it. It's not bias as much as them just being belligerent for the sake of being belligerent. At least Davidson was back this week!

A word about "bias:"

Anything you listen to that doesn't fully jibe with your world view is biased. At least, to you it's biased. Accept it now or it will eat apart your soul. If one console gets spoken of more than the other, it's probably because it's in the news more often, not because the hosts are intentionally favoring it. That being said, Super NES rules and Genesis is gayzor.

I'm a very recent convert to the world of podcasting (only started listening in February) so I'm looking forward to checking out what everyone is listening to.

Here's my list, with probably nothing being all that original.

Rebel FM

Good Grief
Retronauts
The Bombcast
Idle Thumbs

Bias is something that's unavoidable - it's human nature to have a reason to compare things to figure which you like more. It becomes an issue when you're not willing to look at something objectively because of said bias. It's one thing to say you prefer one thing to another, it's another matter completely to say the thing you don't prefer sucks, especially as a game critic. I'd bet Jeremy Parish has 360 games he enjoys - it's just that the DS has more titles that are conducive to the kind of experience he wants from his gaming.

I haven't listened to enough of Listen Up to really make a decent judgment on how biased they are, but I can see where the accusations of bias come from. A lot of their opinions on Sony's E3 offerings could be construed as preconceived hate - the highly negative initial reaction to the PSP Go and the idea that Sony's motion control demonstration was "embarrassing" being prime examples - but I think they've given everything they talk about a fair shake so far.

Late to the party on this thread but I will jump in with my list.

Bombcast - My personal favourite these days, it's thoroughly entertaining. A great example would be the 20 minute discussion they had a couple of months ago about how many X would it take to beat Y (Bears vs T-Rex being the stand out). On top of the awesome random tangents they also have pretty decent discussions about games, I generally don't agree with them alot but it's nice to hear different opinions that don't support mine.

ListenUP - Not quite as good as it once was but still a great listen. I find they seem to be a bit less informed than they should be for some of the disussions they have, if they just stuck to what they knew or made an effort to more better informed it could be one of the best podcasts around.

Old eps of 1UP Yours - I absolutely adored 1UP Yours and when there were lots of links going around after the 1UPocalypse I jumped on the complete 1UP Yours one so I occasionally open that folder on shuffle and give a random old ep a listen, always entertaining and quite interesting hearing predictions and such.

Mobcast - More recent addition obv but the mixture of old 1UP personalities plus random guests and the different format from other podcasts make it quite refreshing.

PlayerOne Podcast - Another favourite, like the Bombcast I love this for the random discussions they end up having or just the random geeky references that'll come up during the podcast. I'd be lost without this one.

Out of the Game - Shawn Elliot, Jeff Green AND Luke Smith on one podcast. Nuff said.

Bungie Studios Podcast - I'm a Halo nerd, what can I say. The Bungie guys are pretty entertaining though even beyond the discussion about the studio.

A Life Well Wasted - An absolutely amazing achievement in podcasting, when I first starting listening to them I never thought they'd become something like this, I'm glad they did though.

Tekzilla - Pretty awesome tech show, helps me keep a little more in the know about stuff that I would other.

The Totally Rad Show - Geek culture show hosted by some thoroughly entertaining fellows, it should speak to how good the show is that I've rarely seen/played/read the things they discuss but I still watch.

Co-op - The 1UP Show was always my favourite internet video show so it was no surprise that it's spiritual successor quickly took that spot. It's things like this that are the reason I love the internet.

RebelFM - Another one I love for the random non game things, it's always good for a laugh. Like the Bombcast the games discussion is always interesting.

Adam & Joe - Highlights from Adam & Joes BBC Radio 6 radio show, always a good laugh. The only non gaming/geek related podcast I listen to aswell, heh.

I think I've missed some but I'll stop rambling for now.

I've also started giving the Gamespy Debriefings a listen the last week or so because Chuf and Ryan are on it. It's alright although Will Tuttle grates on me alot so I'm not sure it's something I could listen to regularly.

Edit: One I forgot then saw a few posts above:

Retronauts, another one I'll listen to even if I don't know the topic being discussed ecause it's that good and always interesting.

It's kind of interesting, most people listen to pretty much the same stuff, and a lot of these started fairly recently. I wonder what is behind this boom? Came at a good time though, working a boring job this summer and I go through like 6-8 hours of podcasts a day. Geekbox and Adam Corolla are my favorites, followed by pretty much the whole NPR line up.

  • GFW repeats. 2007 was the best year by far.
  • Out of the Game. Great hearing Shawn, Jeff, and N'Gai together.
  • A Life Well Wasted. Best podcast ever that is not really a podcast. Each episode is like a work of art that can be listened to repeatedly.
  • Controller One Focus Test podcast. Great game commentary. I love aussie comedy. It's as if 3 Yahtzees made a podcast
  • Diggnation. Classic, been listening since Diggnation #1.
  • Listen-Up. Still good, they get too long sometimes, but Garnet and John Davidson make a great combo.
  • EA Podcast. A little dry, but I'll listen to anything Jeff puts out. Plus he's working on making them better.
  • Mobcast. The Bitmob podcast hosted by Dan Shoe and 4 other dudes. Great show
  • Gamers With Jobs Podcast. Usually pretty interesting, but the whole "Games you can play right now" is usually very dry and full of games you ain't never heard of. But it's pretty good for the most part.

That's all I got for right now.
Of course Co-OP is on my list as well as Gamespy and Retronauts, but I have to get back to work right now.

Honorable mention:
Rebel FM (has gotten boring with horrible sound quality and no preparation)
The Instance (I'm not into WoW right now)
BlizzCast (See above)
TWiT (Sorry Leo)

now a days I listen to:
The giant bombcast
Geekbox Radio
Rebel FM
Rebel FM-game club (ive tried to play through all the games with them, but have always gotten to them to late :?

Technically I'm also subscribed to out of the game, and a few others but to tell you the truth they don't grab me like those 4, its weird you'd think a podcast with Shawn Elliot Jeff Green Luke Smith and Robert Ashley would grab me more....i think its the skype aspect of it (N'gai's fine too, but he doesn't have the awesomeness pedigree the others do, I just respect him as a very good, interesting opinion)

also, although I don't actually play DnD or any other roleplaying game of that nature, I've taken to listening to a group called RPGMP3, they record there sessions of playing different roleplaying games, and its absolutely hilarious and interesting at the same time, If you like DnD and/or other roleplaying games I highly recommend them, I've spent a large amount of this summer catching up and a warhammer roleplaying game they have going (its something like 40 hours long in total, and its actually one of there shorter games, one game is probably about a week straight of listening XD) so it you like any of the following, definitely give them a try!
-terrible accents
-Texans
-British people
-DnD
-Texans and British people playing DnD together, with terrible accents for the NPC's

http://www.rpgmp3.com/

Over the years I've given up on the 1up podcasts, they slowly lost there appeal, first GFW was closed, then everyone started leaving, I got to be there for most of the best of GFW, and the best of 1up yours after Luke Smith left, so I have nothing but love for 1up, but there just not the same anymore.
Currently Playing: Torchlight, Borderlands, Planescape:torment

Procrastinating: Dragon Age, Disgaea DS, SMT Devil Survivor, Assasins Creed 2

Wants to play: Mass Effect 2, Bioshock 2, Heavy Rain, Alan Wake, Ico, Persona 4
