The Geekbox: Episode 110

Postby Rydog » Mar 23rd, 2011 @ 7:51pm

In this week's riveting episode, we talk lots of 3DS (spoiler: the 3D's not THAT cool) and read some hilarious iTunes reviews (keep those coming, people!). Also, if you're of a mind to kick us some pizza money, I've set up a revised donations page, in the off-chance that you're crazy enough to find us THAT valuable.

Also, I'm finally learning how to use this thing called Facebook that some of you might have heard about. The Geekbox's Facebook page has an actual static/unique URL now, as well as a Like box on our front page. So like us, dammit! And like liking us!

What pizza would Ryan Scott order?

"I'll have a Hawaiian, without the pineapple."

Hawaiian pizza is so good.

Everyone knows Ryan gets jelly beans and marshmallows on his pizza.

Hawaiian pizza is a fucking mockery of pizza. I actually really enjoy pineapple but I wish I could decimate the entire cultivar off of this terrible fucking planet Earth so that Hawaiian pizza could no longer exist.

You are #1 super iTunes reviewer extraordinaire. That was hilarious. :)

Also, I'm boring, I just like regular old cheese pizza. Although there's a San Francisco-based chain that does a pretty good barbecue chicken pizza.

Bleh, nevermind. BBQ sauce has no business being on a pizza.

Pizza needs as much meat on it as possible. I would eat a pizza with an entire horse carcass on it.

Hawaiian is great, as long as the ham's not shitty reformed meat. I'm more of a pepperoni/meat feast kinda guy myself, though.

I used to find too much choice in games paralyzing.

I have begun to grow into games that have choice.

As for DA:2, I'm also loving it too. Still on Act I. Doing mostly side quest.

Looking forward to banging isabella too.

Hopefully they keep updating the game on PC and Nvidia keeps updating their drivers. Runs well so far. But i think it should run much better on my PC.

I think it was Karen who was saying that having so much shit for the iphone was okey-dokey, but wasn't having piles and piles of cheap garbage one of the major factors that fucked up the video game industry in the early 80's? It's different because the Iphone doesn't have retailers selling physical goods, but still.

Speaking of the crash, between the rising cost of "AAA" games (and I don't just mean $60, DLC is getting out of control), the cost of console ownership, constant re-hashing, the complete fucktardery of downloadable crap, Nintendo shovelware, and "free" to play, the video game industry is going to have some major problems in the future.

And even then, video game magazines made a living off of telling people which games were shit for decades.

Games in the Atari era were not cheap. It was the fact they cost so much and that there was so much crap that was the downfall. The iPhone has a lot of crap...for ~$1. And then you have some great game for ~$1-$5. If they had crap games that were $20 then it would tank. Plus you have lite versions before you buy.

The reviews were quite funny. Might try to do one eventually.

I had to eat NYC pizza for 3 days straight.....

So yea.

I also found the Nintendo comments quite amusing. Nintendo being the company that allows almost any excuse for a game to come to the DSi Ware you would think they are in not position to talk.

The appstore is one of the few places in which the market decides the price. If that's good or bad depends on what is you position. As a consumer i cannot complain.

Good point, but the difference is the good shit on the app store pretty easily rises above the rest. With Atari back in the day most people had no clue what they were buying.

I love DA2. Choices aren't bad in BioWare games. That's what NG+ is for. You can try other options. Don't fret.

Btw Ryan, the choices you make in DA2 will affect the story and direction of the game. More so than you think. Huhuhu...

Speaking of iphone stuff. People should definitely check this one out. Amazing art and sound design:

"This has been posted before, but it needs to be reiterated: Forget-Me-Not is amazing. A Pac-Man riff on Rogue that works way better than it should. Few games get that crazy feng shui of risk and reward balanced as well as this. As you get better at it, you feel like your'e constantly on the edge of blowing up. The better you're doing, the closer you are to that edge. It's totally procedural, so every game is different.

It takes a few games to understand what you're doing, but it's so worth it. "

-Robert Ashley

Also, Collision Effect is quite fun, simple and very pretty.

If you go through a game like Mass Effect wanting to see everything in one play through you're missing the point of the game. They give you so many choices so that everyone has a somewhat different experience playing it.
