It's a bit early to be drinking, but I'll enjoy this on the treadmill.

Listening to the podcast while walking on a treadmill and drinking! Excellent combination.

Listening to you guys while working out is just the worst idea ever. I can literally feel my motivation and enthusiasm for pumping iron draining out of my body while my ear canals are carefully massaged by the dulcet tones of you two bickering about the inane trivialities of comic issue ordering or the relative feats and abilities of different supermens.

I've always felt like the biggest difference between Marvel and DC is that DC tends to be about the icons and archetypes and Marvels trades in flawed characters. But that's just my simplification.

Why must things be delineated into arbitrary values of "good" and "bad"? Why can't they just... be?

Higgins, it's Frank Quitely, not Quietly. His name is a play on "quite frankly."

Another difference between the Marvel and DC in my opinion is their editorial direction. Marvel dictates their content to produce the bigger sales numbers and hype, while DC tends to be more creatively minded and experimental, both in content in format.

A key example of this is Wednesday Comics, which I loved.

I agree with this. Marvel is all hype and DC is more reserved, but with "The New Rejiggered 52" DC seems to be trying to move into the hype arena.

BTW, I snickered after you read the thank you letter from the kids, only because you said their names were Matthew (Damon) and Ben (Affleck).

I think DC also tends to respond more to the trolls. I mean they created Superboy Prime so SOMEONE is on the forums. They kept their prices low but still come in second on sales, and they're going day and date on digital, which NO one's how that is going to work. Marvel says "you're paying for this stuff and you'll like it, " and apparently we do.

Superboy Prime was created years before the advent of the internet.

Fan Boy hate has been around for years though. Ahhh, the good old days of hate mail.

The thing is, Superboy Prime was actually a hero before he went nutso.

Fan Boys are fans before their view of the world is torn to shreds by #1 gimmicks. Wait am I hating on "The New Rejiggered 52" again. Oh well.

I was astonished at how on-point you guys were with this observation, because I fall into this category as well: I read Superman or Batman as a little kid, Marvel as a teenager with Spiderman and X-Men, then DC brought me back to comics as an adult mostly with Vertigo books.

Virtually every comic book reader falls into this category.

Here is something I'd like to hear about on the podcast as a topic in the future. I'd like to know as a retailer, how you feel about Diamond. Do you think they are good for the industry? Would you prefer an alternate or competition? And why the heck doesn't Marvel and DC just distribute their books themselves to the retailer? In the digital age it seems like this should be really easy to accomplish.

Ah, yes, the Diamond dilemma. As the only comics distributor, they've managed to avoid being labeled a monopoly due to several legal loopholes, but everyone knows that they are. They simply don't raise the issue because it's too much hassle and they're a benevolent dictator. Marvel attempted to self-distribute back in the late 90s, but it fell through.

IT seems like it would be much easier today to self distribute if they really wanted to. The internet is a much bigger force and should make it easier for them.

Master Higgins, you done fucked up again. Multiple times in his history, Batman found his killer and brought him to justice, including recently in Infinite Crisis.
