The worse thing about the movie was that Catwoman has no pet cats.

One day I’ll listen to a podcast where the hosts don’t feel the need to footnote each minor criticism with “I hope people don’t think I hate this movie” and it will be glorious

Just got to the Superman theme song discussion and I will say that Danny Elfman's theme is very much part of Batman's mainstream perception as William's Superman theme.

There's a reason why it was used for much of the Animated series, and influence Shirley Walker's later themes. Superman The Animated Series didn't use William's theme and I almost perfer it over William's theme, specifically because parts totally sounds pulled from William's work on Star Wars

Topic on Superman theme.
Change it! Get a new theme, yes its iconic but wouldnt that be the problem if they kept it the same? Whats the fist thing you think about when you hear the John Williams score? You think of Donner's version of Superman. When your trying to reboot a film you dont want it to call back to the original because it would defeat the purpose of the reboot. Kinda of similar to Superman Returns, its not a bad movie but it took things literally from the first film. The theme is very important to the film, im guessing the reason they havent shown it yet might be because: A. They havent nailed it down yet. B They're saving it for the reveal in the film, which would be very cool.

Wait...how is the emotional scene with Michael Caine crying at the Wayne gravesite ... cheesy?

People really liked that Animal House ending huh?

Patently disappointed by nobody on the Geekbox mentioning Pacific Rim news from Comic-Con. I assumed that would be right up your collective alleys. Good podcast regardless, Ryan saying the courtroom scene was probably a Joker scene was something I totally spaced on while watching the movie.

It's stupid that nobody has leaked the Comic-Con trailer for that yet.

Ryan mentioned something about Bruce Wayne/Batman being broken then fixed then broken again then fixed again throughout the movie.
Spoiler: show
The way I saw it, he never really got fixed until after he escaped the pit. When he first puts the suit on again, he was just forcing himself to be Batman because he thought that was what needed to be done. He wasn't mentally or physically there. Which is why Bane got away and he got surrounded by cops. It's not until he realizes that rather than not fearing death, the fear of death itself is what feuls you to fight for what you believe in, when Bruce actually becomes "fixed".

Quick thoughts:

- Was the scene at the hospital necessary? Yes. It's one of the things I like the most about this film. Comic-Batman doesn't have to worry about growing old, or having the meniscus wear out in his knees. Nolan's IRL-Batman does. That scene did more to humanize Batman than just about everything else put together. Plus, the robotic thing, I thought was cool. It reminded me of Batman Beyond.

- The Batman/Gordon reveal with a flashback was a little heavy-handed, but Batman Begins was seven years ago. A lot of your movie audience (just like with the Robin-namedrop) are not going to remember that scene. Stylistically, it could have been handled better, but I simply see it as a necessary evil.

- The Talia reveal: I knew it was Talia from the very beginning. What I didn't know is if she was going to be evil or not. She seemed to be playing the good guy for the whole film, and I thought maybe she was going to be the counter to Bane - Bane was the League run amok. Talia was going to be the League outright, actually working improve the world. So I was surprised when she made her move.

- I don't think there's anything creepy or sexual about Talia/Bane. Bane was clearly just her protector. I hadn't considered the Ubu-angle, but it makes sense. Lots of Nolan-characters are composite-characters (Ra's al Ghul was a composite of Ducard as well). If anything, you have to ask if Bane had a thing for Talia's mother.

- I loved Batman vs The Bomb. To me, that made the movie. The first movie was the humble beginnings of Batman. The second was a very typical Batman-story of Batman vs twisted-criminal/villain. This third movie? Batman vs the impossible. Batman vs a comic scenario. Batman becoming a legend - the savior of a city - finally fulfilling his goal of becoming a symbol to inspire others. Batman becoming bigger than life. Batman becoming the kind of guy who could take on anything - not just thugs and criminals - the kind of Batman that would make sense and hold his own working with the Justice League. It was awesome. It took the Nolan-IRL-deconstruction of Batman, and reconstructed him into the Batman we all know and love.

The podcasts you were listening to must have been pretty bad then, because I thought these guys were doing more nitpicking than praising. Which is utterly baffling to me, when this was a far more competent and intelligent film than the Avengers, but nobody on these podcasts had a single ill thing to say about that one.

The nitpicking they did do was after they talked about how much they liked it and they downplayed most of those things. Most other stuff I've listened to people just said "meh" and then spent 45 minutes on his knee brace or something with no positives at all. Just frustrating that such an entertaining movie was not given a tenth of the leeway that The Dark Knight was.

Even geeks will equivocate to justify liking just about anything.

I mean, I like The Dark Knight Rises. The movie isn't that good, but I recognize that and still like it. I don't need to nitpick or counter-argue canon versus general audiences. The movie ain't that good and that's okay.

So it sounds like like they weren't able to figure out that the reason Batman lost to Bane in the first fight is because Bane couldn't feel any pain because of the gas in the mask . You know what they say, no Bane, no gain.

For the record: I TOTALLY knew the answer to Ryan's Star Wars trivia question because I played the awful Star Wars TCG!

OMG, I played that game. My little brother was all over that shit. Pretty sure he had the entire collection of the first run. Of course, he collected that, and I collected the even worse Star Trek TNG CCG.

All I could think about while listening to this part of the pod was how nobody was bringing up this classic (and somehow preferable) Batman vs. a bomb scene:

I like that you guys weren't soft on the film, which is more than I can say for many "reputable" film review outlets, but I do think it was given more of a fair shake than was offered to Prometheus.

I collected the wide Star Wars TOPPS trading cards from the 1990s. They sold them in the grocery store so when I went to the grocery store with my mom as a kid I'd usually end up with a pack. (or if I was lucky two) They were purely collectible though and depicted scenes from the first three movies on the front and if I remember right trivia on the back.
Get outta here, Thunder Tits!
