You guys should try to get kenzo on the podcast when you're short on cast members.

The whole "there was only ___ movie(s) / season(s)" is among the dumbest things geeks do and has never been funny

Also I see Karen continues to deny the podcast the chance to become the puppybox :x

Ryan, you were confused. Higgins was making sense, regarding his complaints about Kickstarter's policy changes.

puppybox - Agreed.

Funny how antagonistic Ryan is to Higgins each episode. Almost as if Ryan considers Higgins his arch nemesis.

Guild Wars 2 - if there is a Geekbox clan, I am definitely interested. To answer Higgin's question you can buy things like temporary experience boosts, vanity items such as sunglasses and boxing gloves, etc. The high level gear comes in when you are playing the game and find mystic chests that require special keys that you have to buy in the in game store. Course Ryan covered a lot of this in the podcast...

The Geekbox: Episode 180!

Postby Zerien » Aug 8th, 2012 @ 12:59pm

Hey all,

Was anyone else surprised by Higgins' lack of knowledge of Killer Bunnies?

I'm from the UK and would feel comfortable saying board games in general are bigger here than the States but it still seems a little shocking to me for a comic book store owner not to have heard of the franchise.

Cracking episode, but I can only wonder if the discussion would have run differently if it had been some sort of Settlers of Catan deal as most would have been familiar and know that it is already an established series of games.

Just a thought and much love!

Casino Royale was like watching a Michael Bay movie compared to Goldfinger's snoozefest. How that somehow became everyone's favorite, I'll never know.

And I hate the "which Bond is the best" argument, but I'm going to throw my hat into the ring in Roger Moore's defense. I'm not saying he's the best either, but man- he does not deserve the crap that he gets.

PSO2 isn't that hard to play in Japanese, granted I can read some of the kana. (mostly katakana) However the way the game is layed out is pretty similar to comparable games anyway. The only trouble is in a couple quests but most are fairly simple and looking up the skill tree and how they've changed grinding weapons/armour in the game compared to previous Phantasy Star games.

That said I can understand people's reluctance or idea that it's more than a little eccentric of a proposal to play it in Japanese if you aren't well versed in the language.

However, it is kind of a bummer that with the new update last night Sega changed the ToS so that it forbids connecting directly or indirectly from outside of Japan. They aren't IP banning anyone though and it seems to be more of a deterrent/stronger reason to shut off people outside of Japan if the load is too great and seeing as they are making an English version with English servers for North America and Europe there is probably a whole divisional issue when it comes to how they want you to access their product.

Also and now these guys are the really crazy dudes but you can buy costumes and the ability to make player shops and trade with real money and since it's just the standard Visa, American Express, Mastercard people have been using fake Japanese addresses in conjunction with their credit card so they can get cool costumes and stuff. Which I imagine causes their billing teams grief with the whole fake addresses stuff.

  • Thunderball > GoldenEye > Casino Royale. Sean Connery is the best Bond, but he's an awful spy. Pierce Brosnan was probably the most debonair Bond but I hated how quickly his films escalated into nonsense (Die Another Day was unadulterated trash). Like R.S. said, Daniel Craig is probably the closest to being the Bond from the books... but only if you conveniently forget about how racist and sexist Bond was in Fleming's writings. Roger Moore was an awful joke gone horribly awry - you had an old flabby guy pretending to be sexy and athletic, all while flirting with a Moneypenny who looked more like your grandma than the hot-flirty receptionist in some of the campiest films ever made. Terrible terrible stuff.
  • This is me giving my requisite scolding for delving yet again into awful awful terribad awful MMO-talk.
  • You guys used Sliders for the episode's image, yet only talked about it for like, 5 seconds. I am disappoint.

During the podcast they mentioned they wanted a S.H.I.E.L.D. movie. I have to wonder if they remember Iron Man 2 very well, because that film felt like half Iron Man/Tony Stark and half S.H.I.E.L.D. If a movie studio did a Nick Fury focused S.H.I.E.L.D. movie, then I guess that would work.

S.H.I.E.L.D. movie needs to be two hours of this:

So I don't get it... The agent in Avengers that everybody loves, was he in other movies or just the Avengers? Why do people like him. I know it's going to be nonsense because you people are all incorrigible nerds but tell me anyways.

Yeah he makes some apperances in most of the other movies if I remember right. I remember he's in Thor and Iron Man 2.

Personally I didn't get everyone being all sad about him dying because I kind of just figured him as just some pawn of S.H.I.E.L.D. since his development as a character was fairly shallow and in the end he was really just a plot device, I have no real opinion about him either way.

Agent Agent from Shield was fairly likable in all the movies he showed up in. He played the biggest role in Iron Man 2 I think. But when The Avengers came around they made him pretty funny and likable. Especially when they suspected Shilled of doing weird stuff with Hydra stuff they makes most Shilled members seem like jerks or schemers. But he somehow he retained a friendly everyman like quality, and then they killed him.

So it was pretty blatant transparent string pulling for nerds but that doesn't really matter because most fan faves are like that.

No, his biggest role was in Thor. He was the only SHIELD representative in that movie (with the exception of Sam Jackson in the post-credits scene).

Can I assume you are referring to the Daniel Craig incarnation, and not the Woody Allen et al. one?

Daniel Craig's Bond portrayal in Casino Royal was one of the better interpretations of the character, but even a stellar performance by 007 couldn't save the train wreck of a film that was Quantum of Solace. Casino Royal managed to breathe fresh life into an aging franchise, but Quantum of Solace knocked the wind out of it. After seeing the abysmal QoS, I'm not sure what to expect from Skyfall, but I'm willing to give this franchise another chance.

(Edit: corrected a typo and a word omission - that's what happens when I post at ungodly hours.)

If memory serves the major reason why Quantum of Solace had issues was the writer's strike. Or at least that's what I've heard it blamed on. Between Craig's Bond and Nolan's Batman movies it's crystal clear that audiences are rewarding filmmakers who present a more serious take on the material when compared to the silliness that preceded it.

Getting iTunes error reports on this, so trying to work around it. Did wonder why I didn't have this...

Coulson was in all of them bar maybe Hulk. He's in the original Iron Man (he says the full name of SHIELD to Stark or Pepper and he/she tells him they should come up with a snappier name), Thor, Iron Man 2 and I believe briefly, very briefly, in Cap as well.
