Postby Rydog » Oct 26th, 2012 @ 3:20pm

The Comedy Button is celebrating Halloween with a commentary for The Lost Boys, in both NTSC and PAL formats (for all our weird European friends). Enjoy!

Weird European countries that use PAL? PAL is almost like the metric system, most of the world use it except USA. Still, looking forward to doing this commentary.

Because Monster Squad isn't readily available to buy or stream.

What happened to "Over the Top" and "Masters of the Universe"? They used to be on the commentary store and I bought them in anticipation. Are you guys still gonna do a commentary on them? If you aren't, I forgive you :)

Somehow I've never seen this film, though I've heard of it many times over the years. Is it worth watching normally first? And then doing the commentary? Or should I just go straight commentary?

Wait, what? Europe still uses PAL? Not a format like ATSC?

Actually the entire continent of North America and almost all of South America used NTSC. Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay don't but Brazil uses a different specification of PAL that are basically the NTSC spec. The only difference is colour encoding so your picture will be monochrome.

Also in a silly twist Brazillian PAL is incompatible with standard def PAL (576i) due to having specs that match NTSC. Argentina/Paraguay/Uruguay's version of PAL is mostly compatible with standard PAL but they also use another version of NTSC as well and most televisions are designed to display both. Additionally South Korea, Japan and the Philippines and a couple others use/used NTSC.

Although like jw_6179 said it's all about digital terrestial television broadcast standards these days, which have become even more dumb and divided. North America's (and South Korea) pushing ATSC, Japan has ISDB-T which most of South America adopted/is adopting, Europe is pushing DVB-T as a PAL and SECAM replacement and China has DTMB which it's trying to push for in the Middle East.
Get outta here, Thunder Tits!

The comic book store where they filmed parts of Lost Boys is Atlantis Fantasyworld in Santa Cruz, CA. I've been friends with the owner for a long time now, great guy, one of the best comic guys in the biz. This was his old location on the pier before it got flooded and they moved downtown.

Do comic shop owners hang out often with other comic shop owners?
