It's seemingly impossible to make a list of 3 shows and not leave off something that is deserving.

I was on team APant1 when he was the only one to mention Psych but then he had to go drag ponies into the podcast...

I swear that I will be caught up with Boardwalk next season so you and Kevin will have someone else to talk to.

RZA's Man with the Iron Fist would have been my most disappointing movie cause I expected the soundtrack to be all hip-hop and RnB and it wasn't and the it's end wasn't as strong as it start.

Caught up on Spartacus for the new season starting next week and it is tied with Girls for shows I am most looking forward to being back on air.

You caught up on Sparticus before Boardwalk Empire, Seamus? For shame... :(

I like Psych a lot, but I'm just not as excited about it after X number of seasons and turning into a parody of itself. It absolutely wasn't a top 3 show of the year (I have to catch up too).

I'm disappointed by the lack of "Switched at Birth" on your list, Seamus.

My full top 3 would be Girls at 1, Breaking Bacon, Luck and Spartacus at 2. Switched at Birth, Awkward, Suburgatory and Coffee Prince(korean soap) tied in third. The last quarter season of Switched at Birth veered into tired soap storylines but I am looking forward to the new season staring next week even though the final scenes of last season set up a few more soap storylines.

I caught up on Spartacus first cause the upcoming season is it's last and the talking Tv with Ryan and Ryan podcast talk about Spartacus more and more positively than Boardwalk. The show is really good bar the first half of the first season and it's the closest show to Deadwood with it's swearing Shakespearen dialogue - which I love. Also Argon and Nasir are my current favourite Tv couple. After I catch up with Mad Men and Treme I'll start on Boardwalk

 @ thinking the dialog in Spartacus is Shakespearean. Read more Shakespeare for fucks sake. MAY be Shakespeare through a dudebro filter, but even that's giving it too much credit.

Pseudo-Shakespearean would be a more accurate description or in the words of the showrunner - "Shakespeare extra, extra light, a cross between Shakespeare and Robert E. Howard" (but without the rampant racism and sexism of Howard).

I think the dialogue in Deadwood is kinda like swearing Shakespeare although profane poetry may better describe it. The writers of Spartacus are no David Milch but a pale Deadwood is better than no Deadwood.

To continue the Deadwood comparison (and quoting Alan Speinwall) both "are about selfish loners existing on socities fringe finding ways to come together in service of something greater than themselves" except it's all going to go to shit in Spartacus and I am really interested in how they portray the rise and fall of the revolution in the new season.

Finally Spartacus >>>> Game of Thrones IMO.

Comparing Spartacus to Deadwood makes me want to remove your guts from your body so you can see them before you bleed to death.

Both shows set in well-known historical periods ( Milch's initial pitch for Deadwood was following 2 centurions sent to arrrest St.Paul)

To compare Spartacus/Crixus and Swearengen/Bullock - all four at start cared only for their own personal interests and didn't want to be involved with/hated the other and had no interest in the larger community beyond what it could do for them but became leaders and allies rallying their respective communities against other threats.

Another major point of Spartacus is who holds power in various relationships (how those with power care so little for those without and the suffering that causes) and how that changes while Deadwood looks at rise of civilisation and law and order come about.

Well written female characters in periods where it could be very easy to have female characters with little agency occupying differents roles/classes in the socities.

Extensive use of the word cock in the most delightfully inventive of ways

Overall Deadwood is the better show cause David Milch is a genius but Spartacus is a worthy contender as tier 2 show below the Daivd Trinity
