PAX Prime '10 Panel and Meet-up Information

If you're headed to PAX Prime in September, here are a few awesome panels and get-togethers you just might be interested in attending. Hopefully we see some of you there! I'll make sure this thread stays updated if any of this information changes.

--

PlayStation Blog and IGN PAX Meet & Greet
Thursday, September 2nd @ 7:30PM, Top Pot Donuts (2124 5th Ave.)
At this before-the-show meet-up, IGN and GameSpy folks will be handing out t-shirts and stickers -- plus you'll get to play a bunch of PlayStation games. Yay!

--

1UP Alumni Impromptu Reunion
Friday, September 3rd @ 2:30PM in the Pegasus Theatre
We spend a good deal of time sitting around drinking and remembering the good old days of 1UP (you know, way back in the mid-'00s?). A last minute cancellation opened up an hour in the panel schedule and we're ready to fill it... with beer and good times. We're inviting all of PAX to join us for a loving walk down memory lane. Cheers!

Panelists include: Jane Pinckard, Che Chou, Ryan O'Donnell, Andrew Pfister, Patrick Klepek, Karen Chu, Jeff Green, Garnett Lee, Cesar Quintero, Jason Bertrand, and maybe more!

How to Podcast Like a Pirate, Presented by Rebel FM and The Geekbox
Saturday, September 4th @ 6:00PM in the Raven Theatre
Back when all the good gaming podcasts vanished in early 2009, a motley group of otherwise-professional editors said to themselves, "Imma gonna start me my own radio talk show whatsit." Now, after nearly two years of jury-rigged and profitless Interwebs "broadcasting," Rebel FM and The Geekbox are widely regarded as two of the most beloved gaming podcasts this side of whatever's beating them on iTunes this week. Join an amalgamation of podcasting pseudo-somebodies as they discuss how they got here, what's great (and not-so-great) about going rogue, and where they hope this whole "podcasting" fad veers next.

Panelists include: Ryan Scott [Editorial Director/Co-Host, The Geekbox], Arthur Gies [Co-Host, Rebel FM], Karen Chu [Co-Host, The Geekbox], Anthony Gallegos [Co-Host, Rebel FM]

CGW/GFW Radio "The Brodeo" Reunion #2: Even Eli Knows What That Means

*** We had to cancel this panel. I'm as bummed as you are, believe me. I sincerely apologize on behalf of everyone -- maybe next year! ***

--

IGN/GameSpy Meet-up
Friday, September 3rd @ 9:00PM, Sheraton Hotel Seattle Lobby Bar (1400 6th Ave.)
An informal meet-and-greet for IGN/GameSpy/Geekbox/Rebel FM fans. The bar's an expansive space inside the hotel, so this is an all-ages thing. Come hang out with us!

--

The GameSpy Debriefings LIVE!
Sunday, September 5th @ 10:30AM in the Raven Theatre
Every week, a bunch of bozos who used to work at GameSpy (and one bozo who still does) get together in a room and fill gamers' ears with some of the most insane crap ever heard on iTunes. And for one night only these bozos are assembling to do their thing on a live podcast where you will most likely learn nothing of value about games. Or anything else, for that matter. Join IGN Entertainment's Ryan Scott, Anthony Gallegos, Scott Bromley, Arthur Gies, and Putnam Whipple, as well as the CEO of Threadless and the former president of Orion Pictures, as they sound off on... well, come see (and hear) for yourself!

Panelists include: Ryan Scott [GameSpy], Anthony Gallegos [IGN], Scott Bromley [IGN], Arthur Gies [IGN]

Three Day Badges, sold out. The year I decide to go too. I could buy Friday, Saturday, and Sunday badges but that's $105 and I'm broke. Any chance the GFW will be broadcast after in podcast form?

No Tyler Barber, no Matt Chandronait? FAIL.

Kidding!

Though I don't know this for sure, I expect the audio from the GFW panel would be released through Geekbox like it was last year. (I spearheaded this one, so maybe I should have an answer!)

You know, I like the podcast better when those two aren't on. :?

How come? I think Matt and Tyler funny and bring some different opinions and different things to talk about. But regardless I’m excited for both panels.

Matt's cool but he's a vegetarian. Tyler's cool but he wears argyle socks.

Matt reminds me of me, i.e. boring to listen to. Tyler is just straight up ig'nant. Both of these aren't big deals; I don't hate the guys. I just find myself enjoying the podcast more when they're not on.

Tyler is the best part of Rebel FM. Arthur is annoying, although less since LiQuid pointed out his Kevin Smithiness. Matt is like the awkward kid no one was friends with at school that I would feel bad for and befriend. He says everything so awkwardly.

Arthur's horrible opinions make Rebel FM almost unlistenable, the fact that the podcast is also boring puts it over the edge.

Geekbox > Rebel FM

I wouldn't say Fitch, since Fitch knows he's playing up a role. Maybe Fitch + Patrick = Fitzpatrick.

Am I the only one going out to PAX this year?

I'm going this year, making the drive with some friends. I'm kind of worried about being able to get to see both the Geekbox and the Brodeo panels, what with their times being so close and the lineups will be pretty long :( I'll choose the Geekbox one if I have to prioritize, however.

For no apparent reason what so ever I am blaming Sean Molloy for this.

This was the only one I was planning on listening to. The others unfortunately include people that I cannot stand listening to.

Apparently Jeff Green crashed the Giant Bomb panel and is going to be on the Geekbox/Rebel FM panel today.

It was a great honor to meet you in person at PAX Ryan Scott. It was a funny show and a great way to start my Sunday Morning at pax.

Yeah, I was really happy to see the geekbox staff (Ryan and Karen) and it was even nice to see the Rebel FM guys, Jeff Green and tons of ex (and current) Ziffers. Here is the thing though..everyone is so short! Ryan is tiny; it makes me feel defensive when people are mean to him on podcasts. For the record, I dont care if Karen eats during podcasts.. Also I cant wait for the next geekbox because I'm anticipating KarenxAlice chatter. Hope everyone had a good show!

I had a great time meeting the Geekbox crew again, and meeting Alice for the first time. Also I finally got a picture with Ryan :)

After the panel I was going to go to the Gameworks Sega party, but the lineup was all the way down the street and around the corner. My friends and I sat at the Starbucks across the street and people watched (i.e. checked out all the cosplay hotties wandering about) until the line died down, and we got in no problem. Free drinks!
