Book two just came out and I was waiting to talk about it until a few issues in. Still need to read #2.

Well I haven't made mention of this yet, but I stopped by the store last week and picked up the complete collection of Bone. I sort of wanted the color volumes, but decided I didn't want to spend upwards of $50 on it. At least the black and white volume I got was a signed copy. I had never read it, but my brother recommended it to me. I'm only about 300 pages in, so only about 1/5 of the way through, but I'm enjoying it.

It was also fun to shoot the shit with Ryan for a while. I'll have to try and get back down there at some point for a podcast.

I'd just start with the Johns run. The Wolfman Titans run hasn't been fully collected, unless you want to pick up the Omnibus versions that are coming out.

Yeah, i guess i'll start now with the Johns stuff. I will probably be picking up the omnibus when it comes out.

Anyway, thanks!

New to the forums & still reading the backlog of recommends, please bear with this long post.

I read a lot of Vertigo, have the Fables trades, I read Walking Dead, Y the Last Man etc. and occasionally pick up random issues and trades often based on a whim or word of mouth (Axe Cop, Scott Pilgrim, We3, Watchmen).

I recommend all the above, plus for those that like video games there are some tie-ins that are surprisingly pretty decent, like Ashley Wood's Metal Gear books from IDW and Dark Horse's Mass Effect series.

Anyway, the last time I was in my local comic book shop, I wanted to pick up a superhero book but have (like many people) fallen on and off that wagon & am overwhelmed with the amount of knowledge you need to have just to get into some of these new storylines.

I was recommended All Star Superman, which reminded me of The Long Halloween (Killing Joke, Hush, Dark Victory). It was what exactly what I was looking for: something that introduces you back into a character's lore while giving you enough context to understand who people are and just simply enjoy the storytelling. Frank Quitely's Clark Kent is awesome, by the way.

Any recommendations to someone looking for something like All Star Superman? Tend to gravitate to DC but Marvel books are just fine too. Red Son is next on the list but wanted to try a different superhero book first.

Also, am I a terrible person for being slightly excited about jumping on during DC's renumbering and possibly picking up issues on Wednesday again? Ryan and Brock make me feel bad about this somehow.

I'm from Toronto and the comic book shops here really do sell their issues and trades at less than the US cover price. I still have no idea how they do this.

Don't feel bad. DC is pumping "The New Rejiggered 52" as a great jumping on point and for some titles I think it will be; for others I think there will be some confusion, but I'm hopeful.

I think for those kinds of subjects you're looking at Neil Gaiman's Sandman, Mike Mignola's Hellboy and BPRD, or even a volume of Hellblazer (someone can recommend a run for me).

The Ed Brubaker/Matt Fraction run was pretty good, lotta classic kung-fu action. It's great if you were a fan of old Bruce Lee movies or even the first Mortal Kombat if you're a youngin'. Dwanye McDuffie came on after their run until the book ended, but I believe Fraction and Brubaker's run ended in such a way that you could step away from the book and be fine. I think they only went to #25 or so, so your pocketbook shouldn't hurt too bad.

I'm in need of a quick recommendation for my mom's birthday, which is next week. I'll take any suggestion, but I'm sure she doesn't care for the superhero genre.

Edit: The one thing I do know is that my mom read Archie as a kid.

I would recommend Fables. Read some previous posts if you want some selling points for it. :)

I read Fables myself, so she could just grab a book off my shelf.

Would something like Strangers in Paradise be a good recommendation?

I enjoyed the first issue, but not enough to read the next few. But I was personally hoping for a new series someone could come into cold, like Charles Huston's first arc.

This is going to be a pretty vague posting, but as I was saying in the DC reboot thread, I feel that Green Lantern Rebirth really allowed me to step into the DC world a little late in the game with an understanding of some of the stuff that has gone down prior. I'm new to comic reading and thought it was all very daunting to step into. I was looking for a sort of mellow way to enter into the Marvel realm that I would t have to start from 1, but would also fill me in on the core backstory any suggestions?

I just started reading comics, and by doing so have filled a hole in my life, and created another one in my pocket. What I have finished reading and really liked was the sinestro corps war, blackest night, superman red son, batman dark knight returns, long halloween, and knightfall, and watchmen, and I just started reading flash rebirth. I really am enjoying the books, but I really have no kind of skill when it comes to picking books, i just kind of grab stuff and take suggestions from people i don't like. I'm hoping that you can recommend some stuff to keep me from having to make contact with people I find to be incredibly upsetting. Also, can I swear on the boards? I don't want to start and upset anyone. Thanks in advance.
