So, I don't know what you mean by the vents on the torso. If you mean the big yellow vents, I actually didn't touch those. Most of the kits I've made so far with chest vents, the yellow pieces are single pieces with vents that are kinda shallow. Here with the MG Mk II, the vents are actually separate pieces with no backing, that rest on an inner frame part that has another set of vents. The yellow vents are also big and deep enough that I don't feel pressured to simulate stark shadowing b/c it casts its own well done shadows.CrossXhunteR wrote:For the vents on the torso and the side of the head, how do you do those with the panel wash? Do you just let it pool in there and try to thin it out/clean it up afterwards?
Also, the eyes on that look super cool.
Do it, Jenn! It's super cheap and easy. I've got 1/4th oz bottle of Testors black enamel paint that's going to be more than enough for the forseeable future. It cost like $2. A 'small' thing of lighter fluid (again, more than enough for this, and for painting, touch-ups, and cleaning paintbrushes) cost $2.50. A small, cheap, synthetic brush. Then it's just a matter of having like a disposable pipette (can literally buy hundreds lab-grade pipettes on Amazon for a few bucks) to pull paint out of the little bottle, and then using whatever as a mixing plate. I could probably use a bottle cap tbh. Its easy, cheap, and works really well. You gotta do it, mang!Jenn04 wrote:Holy crap the panel wash looks fantastic!! The head is so hard to do cleanly with markers, but with the wash you did it masterfully! I'm gonna have to get this stuff.
There's a hobby store nearby that I got my paints at, and the whole store is dedicated to JUST model trains. (At one point in the past they were more diverse, but it seems ppl didn't buy those other varieties of models and paints. It's kinda obnoxious to see things like Tamiya brand paints in the window display, or advertising other types of models and then the ppl inside be like "sry, we don't have those no more" but I digress.) And I'd say 3/5ths of this actually kinda big model store is dedicated to making big-ass dioramas for ppls train sets, and I would never get into that b/c it's so expensive and so much work and most importantly, takes up so much extra space. Like, I have 5 finished kits so far. I don't have enough space to display more tbh. I wouldn't be able to handle having giant dioramas for each. If I was going to dump absurd amounts of time and money into this hobby, I'd sooner take up painting the kits rather than that.LiQuid wrote:Kenzo gonna be building gigantic dioramas p. soon.
