also what if there is a tie because i mean if you do the bare minimum there will prob be a few people with the same amount and on another note maybe it should just be a ps3 month for gettting trophies instead cuz id be down for that.

Also, even if I DID play this, there is NO WAY IN HELL I would play with the goal of earning minimal chieves. As someone who has spent hours on getting to level 11 at Giant Bombing, I can say that I am well and fully a slave to achievements.

In the event of a tie there will be a tie breaker of some kind.

I think you're assuming the achievements will be easy to avoid but I'm not so sure.

Well it's just for one play through, after you post your score and someone confirms you can go through again or do the multiplayer and stuff.

You know how many times I play through 99.9% of the video games I play? Once. Once, if that. Assassin's Creed 2 is a recent, rare exception but that's only because Ubisoft ate my save at the final level.

I'm the same way but it looks like you can get some of the skipable achievements in the multiplayer and the multiplayer looks Borderlandsish.

It's 8 player and all of you can go around the entire open world from the single player doing quests and stuff. You level up and can get new gear, I think the trailer said the level cap was 50.

I just noticed you never posted in this thread http://forums.geekbox.net/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1530
Watch that trailer.

True story: I paid $8 for my complete, mint copy of Ico. Just a few months after it came out and bombed. I remembered the Penny Arcade dudes saying they liked it, so I was like, sure whatever. Played it, loved it... Then it got rare. My copy is easily worth the cost of RDR, but I'd sell a dozen of my other games over it.

So the goal is to just get the story trophies/achievements? How long will we have to play through the game?

The goal is to avoid getting achievements/trophies. I think a month is the right amount of time, the game is out May 18th so the contest contest would run to June 18th.

i'm not sure if hampering the way i play (granted i don't know what the achievements will be), but if we're all stuck not shooting people, and/or rotating weapons as to not get X kills in a row with X weapon/type, then it's sorta taking the fun out of the game.

as much as playing for achievements can be tedious and boring at times, at the very least you weren't feeling like your next button press would put you in the losers bracket.

i like the idea of mixing up how to determine the winning condition, maybe just something a bit more enjoyable?

i liked the idea of the range going to extreme unachiever to overachiever. perhaps it's to attempt to get all achievements on one end, and least achievements, while the middle ground are the losers. then again, in a traditional (more is win) situation anyone in the middle is a loser anyway.

i'm just not sure how to spin the lack of achievements as something fun to do.

It should change the way you play the game, that’s the point. In every game you play you either don't care about the achievements or you are actively trying to get them, in this contest you are trying to avoid them which could lead to some really interesting scenarios while you're playing.

I see what you're doing, but wouldn't the person who plays the least have the best chances in this contest? I plan on playing a lot, so unless the trophies for getting x kills with x gun is set really high, I see myself getting trophies. I can guess that there will be trophies for multiplayer as well, simple ones like joining a posse and such, so it might be harder to stay away from them if you play that as well as single player.

We should change this to the "Avatar the Last Airbender: The Burning Earth" Unachievement contest. I feel that would be sufficiently challenging.

a game with good achievements should do exactly that, give the player reasons to play the game using a different item, mode, skillset .. etc. sure there are bland achievements like "kill 500 zombies" or something, but then there are things like "successfully link your attacks together with a teammate" which can totally change the game.

sure you could go through the game never linking with teammates, but i doubt you'll not kill 500 zombies in a zombie game. there's also as liquid said, most people do single playthroughs. what if the game isn't as great as we all hope, and we care about achievements (which unfortunately that bug has bitten me awhile back).. then you've got this game you hate and a pining desire to have the crappy achievements it holds.

looking at the achievements, i see a good bit of fun being lost trying to not get them..

i guess knowing the achievement opportunities for the game would help.

The only avoidable way for the story trophies is to not play the story, and I think that's the point of the contest.
